GED TESTING: February 12, 13, 26 and 27, Susquehanna County Literacy Program is an official site of the GED Computer Testing Center.  The testing center will be open on Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on the second and fourth weeks of the month. Susquehanna County Literacy Program offers free and confidential GED tutoring from Monday to Friday.  Call 570 465-2880.

Farm Bureau Celebrates Food Check Out

Cheryl Matulevich, Susquehanna County Farm Bureau and Judy Shupp, Wyoming/Lackawanna County Farm Bureau are decorating the porch at Scranton Ronald McDonald House in preparation for February 18th - Food Check Out Day.

As a means of recognizing "Farmers Care," Farm Bureau supports this most important Program. For the past 16 years County Farm Bureaus have delivered their donations to the 5 Ronald McDonald Houses in Pennsylvania. Ronald McDonald House provides a home away from home for families who have a loved one hospitalized in a nearby medical facility. Ronald McDonald House provides meaningful and compassionate assistance to these families.

We are asking for your support with donations of grocery gift cards and/or monetary checks for the Scranton Ronald McDonald House. These donations will be used to purchase perishable foods, such as dairy products, fresh fruit, vegetables, bread and, eggs.

A donation (please make checks payable to Ronald McDonald House) can be sent to Emma Hinkley, 13140 Dimock/Nicholson Rd. Hop Bottom, Pa. 18824 or Cheryl Matulevich, 3140 Station Hill Rd. Apt #1, Hop Bottom, Pa. 18824 by Saturday, February 15th.

All donations will be presented to Scranton Ronald McDonald House on February 18th.

Mt. View Accepting Award Applications

Mountain View High School is currently accepting applications for the Carol Richardson Steiner Memorial Service Award. 

The $1,000 award is given in memory of Carol Richardson Steiner, a 1960 graduate of Mountain View High School.  In addition to a deep love for her family, her life was remarkable in her commitment to helping others.  She worked to provide services to disabled children and adults, advanced the cause of adult literacy, was a leader in her church, and contributed her time and talents to many community organizations.  The award is sponsored by her daughter, Jan Winemiller, of Harford, PA.

The student who receives this award will demonstrate a strong record of involvement in school and community activities, in the spirit of service that defined Carol’s life.  The award is open to all graduating seniors at Mountain View.

To nominate a deserving young person for the award, please send letter of recommendation to Donna Porter; Mountain View High School; 11749 State Route 106; PO Box 339; Kingsley, PA  18826.

Please include the name and address of your nominee, a description of his or her service to the community, and why you feel your nominee is especially deserving of recognition.  Please include your name and contact information.
