Blue Ridge Students Earn Straight A’s

The Blue Ridge School District partners with Lattner Enterprises (McDonald's) to recognize Blue Ridge Elementary School 4th and 5th grade students who earn straight "A's" each marking period. Following are students who achieved the honor.

Elk Lake Forensics Dominant At Danville

The Elk Lake Forensics Team started off its Scranton Catholic Forensics League season very strongly by taking 3 of the top 6 places in Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate at the league’s first tournament, at Danville HS, on Saturday, December 7.

Pictured are EL Place-winners at SCFL Tournament: Haley Skinner – 5th Place in Varsity LD Debate; Keeley Carney – 2nd Place in Varsity LD Debate; Mika Smith – 6th Place in Varsity LD Debate.
The team was led by junior Keeley Carney who compiled an undefeated 3 win and 0 loss record during the preliminary rounds of Varsity LD Debate by defeating debaters from Meyers, Abington Heights and Danville High Schools.
Due to the delayed start because of the weather, the tournament did not run any Final round.
Junior Haley Skinner placed 5th and sophomore Mika Smith placed 6th in Varsity LD Debate.
“This is a great start to our league season. We are very happy with the progress of our debaters so far this season,” commented EL Forensics Director Keith Brosious.
The EL Forensics Team traveled to suburban Philadelphia for the prestigious LaSalle Forum Tournament at LaSalle College HS on December 14.

Paige Helen Baron, Vandling was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing Traditional from the Decker School of Nursing at Binghamton University.

Wilkes Univ. Student Runs The Beacon
Wilkes University student Shawn Carey of New Milford, Pa., is gaining hands-on journalism experience as online editor of the student-run campus newspaper, The Beacon. Carey is a junior communication studies major and the son of Kenneth and Wendy Carey.
As members of the newspaper staff, students manage, edit, write and design the award-winning publication. The Beacon appears both in print and online. Loran E. Lewis, assistant professor of communications studies, serves as faculty advisor.
