Edgar “Eddie” S. French

Edgar S. French, 76, of SR 171, Susquehanna, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2013, at his home, after an illness.

Edgar was predeceased by his parents Nelson and Helen French; brothers, Raymond French, Carl French, and Stewart French; and a sister Marion Klym.

He was survived by his loving wife of 56 years Phyllis L. Burdick French; two sons and daughter-in-laws Michael E. and Joan French, and Mark E. and Aubrey French; one daughter and son-in-law Susan M. and Shawn Roy; one sister and brother-in-law Audrey and Harold Wheeler; one sister-in-law Easter French; five grandchildren John, Krystal, Tyler, Connor, and Brody.

Eddie was a 1956 graduate of the Susquehanna Community High School, after graduation he served 4 years in the United States Navy in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. In 1963 he opened and operated French’s Auto Inc. Eddie was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose #794, American Legion Post #86, Canawacta Rod and Gun Club (where he served as a trustee), Susquehanna Royal Arch Chapter, and the Canawacta Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, scouting his property on his ATV, socializing and having breakfast at local restaurants, a good bet, playing poker, mowing his lawn, and a joke. He will be remember for his kindness and loyalty to family, friends and strangers alike and least we not forget that famous cigar.

A memorial service will be held at the Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave. Susquehanna, PA, on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at 11am with Pastor Fred Johnson officiating.

Burial will be in the North Jackson Cemetery, North Jackson, PA.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, from 5 to 8pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Susquehanna Fire Department and the Sacred Heart Hospice.

Catherine M. (Connie) Kane

Catherine (Connie) M. Kane, 89 of Endwell, NY; beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died suddenly, Friday October 25, 2013. She was predeceased by her husband, Padraic Kane. She is survived by seven children, Candy Minchella of Rochester, NY, Sean (Bonnie) Kane of Savannah, GA, Michaela (John) Picciano of Endicott, Pegg (Larry) Macko of Yardley, Pa, Padraic (Terri) Kane of Vestal, Brian (Laura) Kane of Breesport, NY, Kathleen (Sean) Maxwell of Wilminton, NC; nine grandchildren, three great-granddaughters; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence (Ruth) Lubbe; Harry (Jean) Lubbe; a special cousin, Susan Perry of St. Charles, MO; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to thank the Union Volunteer Emergency Squad, the staff of Lourdes Hospital ER and ICU for their compassionate care.

Funeral services were held at the Leon Pucedo Funeral Home, Inc. with the Rev. James P. Serowik, Pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church, officiating. Entombment is at Riverhurst Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

In leiu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to the Lourdes Hospital Foundation.

Richard Allen Tompkins

Richard “Allen” Tompkins, 73, of El Paso Texas, formally of Susquehanna passed away unexpectedly on October 22, 2013.

He was predeceased by his parents Wallace and Audrey Tompkins. He is survived by, his sisters, Nancy Tompkins Knox of Stroud, OK.; Carol Ann Tompkins Hall of Harpursville, NY; and brothers-in-law Robert Knox, and Clair Hall.

Also surviving is his loving grand son Justin Tompkins of El Paso, TX, and several nieces and nephews.

Richard will be fondly remembered by his many friends and family.

Howard Alonzo Weibel Jr.

Howard A. Weibel, Jr., 67, of Susquehanna, PA, passed away on Friday November 2, 2013, at the Barnes Kasson SNF.

Howard was predeceased by his parents Howard and Louise Weibel and his sister Martha.

Howard was survived by his loving wife of 46 years Patricia; his two sons and daughter-in-laws, Howard Weibel, III and Crystal Weibel and Joshua Weibel and Stephanie Weibel; four grandchildren (that he loved very much) Howard IV, Matthew, Elizabeth and Brian; two brothers Harry and Albert; one sister Cecilia and brother-in-law Harold Wayman.

Howard was a loving husband and father. He had a strong faith and loved the Lord. He was a member of the Body of Christ Church, Starrucca, PA. Howard worked at Vail Ballou Press for many years. He was a shop steward and served as president of the Local 89 Bookbinders union.

He coached and managed Benson Bro’s Tri-Boro Little League team for many years and loved each of the players like they were his own. Howard loved to hunt, Bluegrass music, playing his guitar and writing his own songs and also singing in the church choir.

His family would like to express their deepest thanks and gratitude to Dr. Bernard Remakus for the excellent care he has provided Howard over the years and to the SNF staff for making his last few years as comfortable as possible. They would also like to thank the many friends that stopped in to see him and all those that helped in other ways.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 11, 2013, at 11:00 am at Body of Christ Church in Starrucca, PA with Pastor Kevin Setzer officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Body of Christ Church, Starrucca or the Barnes Kasson SNF, Susquehanna.

Audrey I. Stanford

Audrey I. Stanford, age 91, of Hanover, PA, formerly of Susquehanna, PA and Venice, Florida, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Fair Havens Assisted Living in Hanover, PA.

Born December 4, 1921 in Susquehanna County, Oakland Twp. PA, she was the daughter of the late Ralph B. and Pearl (Belcher) Norton.  She was predeceased by her 1st husband, Earl T. Marsh and by 2nd husband, George E. Stanford.

Audrey was a registered nurse for many years serving in various hospitals and nursing home facilities in N.Y., Kansas, Washington, and PA.  She was an artist and especially enjoyed oil and watercolor painting.

Surviving are son, Stephen E. Marsh and wife Rev. Stacy Marsh of Glen Rock, PA; daughter, Virginia L. Root and husband William of Austin, TX; step-son, David C. Stanford of N.Y.; brothers, Robert O. Norton of FL., James A. Norton and wife Katie of Harpersville, N.Y., David W. Norton of TX.; sisters, Ruth E. Clift of Susquehanna, PA and Rita J. Hurlbut of Binghamton, N.Y.; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, John T. Marsh and by sisters, Mildred M. Lamb and Marjorie P. Suchnick.

A Memorial Service will be held in Susquehanna, PA at a later date.  Interment will be at a later date in Venice Memorial Gardens, Venice, FL.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
