Community Fun Day A Great Success

Employees of Peoples Neighborhood Bank and Friends of Susquehanna County, Inc. wish to thank everyone for their contributions to Community Fun Day that was held on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the Hallstead Ball Park. The theme this year was “Giving Back to Our Community”.

This event allowed our communities to work together towards a common goal of community spirit and give exposure to the volunteers of our fire companies, civic organizations, churches, Scouts, and other organizations and businesses that are a part of our area. The parade was a welcomed event with many onlookers. Funds raised at the Community Fun Day will be used to assist residents in Susquehanna County. Together we make a difference.

Ice Cream Was At The Courthouse

To celebrate "July is Ice Cream Month" the Susquehanna County Dairy Royalty served approximately seventy-five people on Thursday, July 18, at their eighth annual "Ice Cream at the Courthouse", held in Montrose.

Reese Allen and Samantha Warner, Dairy Maids, along with State Alternate Dairy Princess, Callie Curley, and Susquehanna County Dairy Princess, Mercedes Spickerman, set up their table with ice cream and served visitors in the mid-ninety degree weather. The ice cream was free to the public.

Pictured is Reese Allen, Samantha Warner, Callie Curley, and Mercedes Spickerman who served ice cream at the courthouse on July 18.

Spickerman's favorite part of the promotion is getting to serve people from the courthouse and the others who come. She loves being a Dairy Princess because, "I get to go around and educate locals who don't know much about the dairy industry."

Evie Goff, the County Chairperson of the Susquehanna County Dairy Royalty said she enjoys, "Listening to the folks visit with the girls. I'm very proud of my girls, their knowledge and especially their social skills." Goff also added, "The goal of all of our promotions is to promote the sale and consumption of milk and dairy products, as well as recognize the hardworking dairy farmer's efforts to produce quality milk on their dairy farms."

The girls also set up a donation jar at the event. Goff stated, "This promotion is one of the few where a donation jar sits on the table, collecting donations to our County dairy promotion program. We began putting a donation jar out because many of the people coming for ice cream wanted to make a donation. The employees and elected officials are always quite generous with their donations."

The dairy court holds local promotions all year. They will be busy at the Harford Fair, with different promotions throughout the week.

Make sure to get your three servings of dairy a day, and cool off with some ice cream for the rest of the summer!

Please come help because this is our club’s biggest fundraiser. Even if you are not able to attend and help you could make a bake good for us to sell. The money that our club earns goes to things like jackets for our three year club members, scholarships, and pays for our club bowling party that we have every year. August 6th through 8th will be State Days at Penn State. August 14 2013 is the date for cleaning up the 4-H building where the 4-H projects will be displayed during the Harford Fair.
