There will be a Celebration of Life, Committal Service at the Ararat Cemetery on April 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. The family had granted his wishes to be donated for Medical Research and now are prepared to honor his final resting place. He was predeceased by his parents Samuel and Ila (Gelatt) Holmes, his first wife Stephanie (Seney) Holmes, sister Betty (Holmes) Gorton, brother William Holmes. He is survived by his loving wife Frances (Weibley) Holmes, four children Roxann and Mark Crouch, Joseph and Bonnie Holmes, Sam and Amy Holmes, Robin Holmes and John Krall. Step-children Mark Ernst, Kim and Bart Reid, Gregory Ernst. Grandchildren Tracey Smith, Edward Hartel, Kim Conklin, Nicholas Holmes, Alan Komar, Sarah Holmes, Steven Holmes, Matthew Holmes, Joanna Sanders, Sandra Reid, Alyssa Ernst; 15 Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his special dog Daisy. Bud was a Decorated Army Veteran, former Postmaster of Thompson Post Office, life member of the VFW Post 7127 Moravia NY, member of the American Legion Post 0800 Groton NY, former officer and member Thompson Hose Co. Edward, 84, went to be with his Lord on March 29, 2012, at his home in Florida, with daughter Jennifer and son Jerome, with him.
Edward was born September 13, 1929 to the late Henry and Anna Herbert. He was preceded by wife, Mary Ann (Paccio) Herbert, brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Adrian Herbert, brother-in-law, Edward Hobart.
Edward was survived by wife, Ann (Allen) Herbert, 6 children, M. Cynthia and Thomas Quinn, Linda Herbert, Edward and Julie Herbert, Jennifer and Stephen Bixby, Jerome and Mary Jane Herbert, Eric Herbert, 2 sisters, Patricia Hobart and Kathyrn Ropke. 22 grand children, 7 great grand children, many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Edward was retired from Prudential Insurance Company, and Susquehanna County Probation.
Edward was a Veteran of the Army, firefighter for Chemical Fire Company, and member of the Knights of Columbus.
Edward loved to travel, collect stamps and coins, camping, bowling, billiards, square dancing, and keeping stats on his baseball team, the Rays.
There will be a memorial service on April 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Church, Susquehanna Pa. for him.
