Aaron Roman Makes Dean's List

ONEONTA, NY - Aaron Roman from Brackney was among the 1,458 students who earned Dean's List honors for the fall 2011 semester at SUNY Oneonta. To qualify for the Dean's List, undergraduate students must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher while carrying a course load of 12 semester hours or more.

Art That Helps

The Blue Ridge fifth grade Art Club is getting ready to launch this year’s Hexagon Project. Students created hexagon donation containers that they will place in local businesses. The money collected will be donated to Susquehanna County Interfaith and they will distribute the funds to people who need help heating their homes through the cold winter months.

Last year Blue Ridge students collected $455.00 in total and also won the Community Partnership Award at the Interdependence Day Art Exhibit. This year, students hope to top that total. After the donations are counted, the containers will be headed to the art show in the fall where they will be on display at the 2012 Interdependence Day Exhibit.

Central Penn College Announces Dean’s List

SUMMERDALE, PA - The following students have been named to the Central Penn College Dean's List for the fall 2011 term: Amy Adee, Susquehanna; Brandon Adee, Susquehanna. To qualify for the designation, a student must carry six or more credits and earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or better for the term.

Dylan Reed Participates In European Union Simulation

ANNVILLE, PA - Dylan Reed of Montrose participated in the Mid-Atlantic European Union Simulation in Washington, D.C., in November 2011. Reed and seven other Lebanon Valley College students represented Spain; LVC alumnus Christopher DeLorenzo '10 served as chair of the council.

Students were assigned to pass a resolution created by a panel of student European Commission members, focusing on Turkish Accession. Reed, a senior history and political science major, represented Spain's Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, prime minister, in the simulation.

The simulation engages students in discussion about topics currently debated by EU members, and is just one of many high-impact activities that Lebanon Valley College students experience. Students were accompanied to Washington, D.C. by Dr. Philip Benesch, associate professor of political science. The EU Simulation course is co-taught by Benesch and Dr. Diane Johnson, also associate professor of political science.

MANSFIELD, PA - A total of 542 Mansfield University students have been named to the fall 2011 Dean's List. To be named to the Dean's List, a student must attend the university full-time and attain at least a 3.5 GPA for the semester.

Mansfield Announces Fall President's List

MANSFIELD, PA - A total of 142 Mansfield University students have been named to the fall 2011 President's list. To be named to the President's list, a student must attend the university full-time and earn a perfect 4.0 GPA for the semester. Mason Griffiths Makes Dean's List

WEST HAVEN, CT - Mason Griffiths from Brackney was named to the Dean's List at the University of New Haven for the fall 2011 semester. Full-time undergraduate students must have a 3.50 or better cumulative GPA for the semester to be eligible for the Dean's List.

DALLAS, PA - a student at Misericordia University qualifies for the dean's list with a 3.55 grade point average or higher. PA House Scholarship Apps Now Available

HARRISBURG - High school seniors can now apply for a Pennsylvania House of Representatives Scholarship to help cover the costs of higher education, Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna) announced.

Each year, two students preparing for post-secondary education are awarded four-year scholarships. The program is privately funded by individual and corporate donors. No tax or other public funds are used.

The program is open to graduating high school seniors who are Pennsylvania residents with plans to attend a Pennsylvania college, university or career school as a full-time student. Students must have attained a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average in high school in order to be eligible for the scholarship. A student’s commitment to community, leadership qualities, extracurricular activities and financial need are also taken into consideration.

The scholarship program is administered through the Foundation for Enhancing Communities. To apply, interested students should visit RepPickett.com and click on House Scholarship Information. The application deadline is March 1.

Scholarships are awarded through an independent panel of judges chosen by the foundation.

Tanya M. Oleniacz Makes Dean’s List

HERKIMER, NY - Tanya M. Oleniacz of Montrose has been named to the Dean's List at Herkimer County Community College. Majoring in Accounting, Oleniacz was one of 600 students to earn academic honors for the fall 2011 semester. The Dean's List recognizes students who have earned an average from 3.25 to 3.8 for that semester.

U Of S Announces Dean’s List

SCRANTON, PA - The University of Scranton has announced it's Dean's List, which recognizes students for academic excellence during the 2011 fall semester. A student must have a grade point average of 3.5 or better with a minimum number of credit hours to make the Dean's List. The list includes students from the Jesuit university's College of Arts and Sciences, the Kania School of Management, the Panuska College of Professional Studies and the College of Graduate and Continuing Education.

More than 1,420 students were named to fall 2011 semester Dean's List, including the following area residents: Ashley Hofer, Herrick Center; Kelsey Carmody, Thompson; Sydney Carmody, Thompson; Derek Gelormini, Union Dale; Paulina Maida, Hallstead; Gregory Stonier, New Milford; Samantha Guthrie, New Milford.

Varsity Debaters Perfect In Scranton

For the third consecutive tournament, the Elk Lake Forensics Team’s Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debaters went undefeated on January 14 at the Scranton Catholic Forensics League Tournament at West Scranton High School.

EL Forensics Team place-winners at the Scranton CFL Tournament at West Scranton High School: Austin Cohen, 1st place in Varsity LD Debate; Richard Guiton, 2nd place in Varsity LD Debate; Matthew Horvath, 3rd place in Novice LD Debate.

Junior Austin Cohen and senior Richard Guiton led the EL Forensics team by closing out another final round in Varsity LD.

Cohen compiled an undefeated 4 win and 0 loss record by defeating debaters from Meyers, Abington Heights and Danville high schools during the preliminary rounds.

Guiton defeated four debaters from Meyers High School to compile his undefeated record.

Both Cohen and Guiton advanced to finals. Cohen, based on speaker points, placed first and Guiton placed second.

In Novice LD Debate junior Matthew Horvath placed third by compiling a 3 win and 1 loss record. His wins came over debaters from Shikellamy and Abington Heights high schools and his only loss came to Meghan McDonald from Danville High School.

As a result of his record, he narrowly missed finals and placed third in Novice LD.

"Austin and Ricky have had an incredible run. Neither of them has lost a debate since November,” commented EL Forensics Director Keith Brosious.

WILKES-BARRE, PA - Wilkes University congratulates more than 300 students who completed their degrees, graduating in December 2011.
