EL Forensics Team Kicks Off Strong

Susky PIC Update

EL Forensics Team Kicks Off Strong

The Elk Lake Forensics Team had a strong start to their season at the Wilkes University Kickoff Classic Tournament on October 30 as all three debaters brought home trophies.

EL Forensics Team place-winners at Wilkes University Tournament: Richard Guiton, Co-Champion in Lincoln-Douglas Debate and Top Speaker in LD Debate; Austin Cohen, Co-Champion in Lincoln-Douglas Debate; Shea Skinner, 3rd Place in Student Congress.

Leading the EL Forensics Team was junior Richard Guiton who compiled an undefeated 3 win and no loss record during the preliminary rounds of Lincoln-Douglas Debate by defeating debaters from Meyers, Abington Heights and Dallas High Schools. As a result of his preliminary speaker points and record, Guiton won the Top Debate Speaker award and advanced to Finals.

Sophomore Austin Cohen also compiled an undefeated 3 win and no loss record during the preliminary rounds of LD Debate and advanced to Finals.

Because both debaters were from Elk Lake, EL Forensics Director Keith Brosious decided not to run the final debate. As a result of this decision, both debaters were declared co-Champions in LD Debate.

Senior Shea Skinner, who was taking a week off from LD Debate, placed 3rd in Student Congress.

“This is a great start to the season. We are very pleased with Ricky and Austin closing out the final round of debate. They have been working very hard over the past few weeks,” commented EL Forensics Director Keith Brosious.
