Mt. View Students Win Best Of Show Awards

The Little Red Schoolhouse on the Harford Fair Grounds has always been a popular feature at the fair where teachers and students can enter some of their finest work. This year was no different with over 1500 items from all over Susquehanna County and the adjoining counties entered and displayed in the department. Ribbons and prize money is awarded to some of the best work submitted. The judging takes place on the Friday before the fair with about eighteen judges collaborating to make the decisions.

Mountain View students Brandon Freely, Stephanie Ostir, and Rebekah Brown win Best of Show Awards in the School Department at the 153rd Harford Fair.

In addition to the ribbons given, three Best of Show awards are selected in the school department. This year all three of the awards went to Mountain View students. Brandon Freely, a sixth grader from Uniondale, won the Mary H. Karhnak Award for the best K-6 grade entry. His entry was a self-portrait pencil drawing which was done using a graphing technique introduced by his art teacher, Robin Phillips.

The Best of Show Award for grades 7-12 went to Rebekah Brown, an eighth grader from Clifford Township. Her still life pencil drawing was inspired by her art teacher, George Barbolish. Both she and Brandon received an engraved clock and a monetary prize for their entries early in September during a special presentation at the school.

The Best of Show Cover Design Award for the 2011 Harford Fair Premium Book went to Stephanie Ostir who is presently in seventh grade. She submitted her entry individually and received $50.00 for her winning design which will be on the cover of the 2011 Harford Fair Premium Book.
