MV Math-A-Thon Supports St. Jude’s

Seventh grade students at Mountain View Junior Senior High School showed their charitable spirit by linking math practice with donations to St. Jude’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Students in Mr. Chris Robinson’s math classes volunteered to work on math booklets containing 200 problems, then collect donations based on what they completed. Last week, Mountain View students sent $811.00 to aid in the research and treatments of catastrophic childhood diseases.

Mountain View is extremely proud of the following students who have shown their commitment to helping a great cause: Shylabeth Adams, Micaela Allen, Frank Alvord, Anna Bowman, Aubrie Christina, Mary Rose Costigan, Sydney Miller, Alyssa Royce, Joanne Schwarztrauber, Paige Spencer, Sydney Urda, Allison Virbitsky.

St Jude’s is supported primarily by public contributions. Their daily operating cost is nearly $1.4 million! It treats children without regard to race, religion, creed, or ability to pay. It helps families cover all costs not covered by insurance. St. Jude’s has estimated that approximately 24 children are diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. each day. Cancer is the leading disease killer of American children, with the hospital being the leading center for the study of these diseases.

All of the students will receive certificates, a tee shirt, and a pass to Six Flags, with others also receiving a sports bags or additional prize depending on the amount raised. A big thanks to the efforts of these students!
