Christmas Eve Service At Montrose Evangelical Why not take a break from the busyness of the Christmas season and spend some time reflecting on the meaning of it all? The Montrose Evangelical Free Church invites the community to join them for their annual Christmas Eve celebration. Enjoy Christmas carols and a variety of musical presentations. Hear the message of God’s love and grace, a message that brings hope and joy to the world in which we live. The church meets at 89 Lake Avenue on the upper campus of the Montrose Bible Conference. Thursday, December 24: vigil masses for the Feast of the Nativity of the Lord will be celebrated at 5:00 p.m. at 9:00 p.m. Friday, December 25: The Holy Day of the Nativity of the Lord will be celebrated with mass at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, December 31: A vigil mass for the Feast of Mary, the Mother of God, will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 1: On New Year’s Day, mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. for the Feast of Mary, the Mother of God. Christmas Eve Service At Thompson UMC Christmas is a season of praise and thanksgiving to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. The Thompson Charge, which encompasses the Thompson and Ararat United Methodist Churches, will celebrate the Christmas season with a Christmas Eve candlelight service at the Thompson Church on Thursday, December 24 at 7:00 p.m. The church would like to welcome all to join in prayer and song to celebrate the true reason for this holy season and joyfully welcome His spirit into their hearts.
The Susquehanna County Commissioners announce the Courthouse will be closed on Friday, December 25, in observance of Christmas. All court related offices will be available.
2010 Dog Licenses Now On Sale Susquehanna County Treasurer, Cathy Benedict, announces that 2010 Dog Licenses & Tags are currently available in the Treasurer's office. Failure to license a dog is a summary offense, and a maximum fine of $300 for each unlicensed dog may be issued. Dog licenses must be purchased by January 1 of each year for all dogs over 3 months old. Licenses are only good for the county in which the dog resides. To purchase a license fill out an application and be sure to sign it. Mail the information with a check or money order made payable to "County Treasurer," PO Box 218, Montrose, PA 18801-0218. For a county other than Susquehanna you may use this application and mail it to the proper county treasurer. You must be 65 to qualify for the senior citizen discount. You must have proof of a disability to qualify for a disability discount - as an SSDI card. For the convenience of the citizens of Susquehanna County we have sub-agents who sell dog licenses around the county until July 1 each year. If you don't receive one in the mail, applications are available on-line at www.susqco.com on the Treasurer's page, at the county courthouse in the treasurer's office or at any of our sub-agents. Christmas Services At First Universalist Church The Worship Committee of the First Universalist Church, Brooklyn, announces its schedule for the coming Christmas season. Sunday, December 20, at 10:00 a.m., the fourth Sunday in Advent will include a program of favorite carols and the story behind their popularity over the years. Pastor Christianson will give the message entitled, “Christmas: Made in the Likeness of the Giving God.” Some youth will perform their talents at the piano. Sunday, December 20, at 6:30 p.m., all are invited to join the church in Christmas caroling. Carolers will meet at the Church. Thursday, December 24, at 8:00 p.m., all are invited to the Christmas Eve candlelight service. Yaw To Host Constituent Outreaches A representative from state Sen. Gene Yaw’s office will be at the Great Bend-Hallstead Public Library on Friday, December 18 from 11-noon, and at the Susquehanna County Courthouse Annex, 31 Public Avenue, Montrose from 2-3 p.m. to meet with area constituents and respond to questions concerning state government. Yaw encourages anyone with a state-related inquiry or problem to stop by; no appointments are necessary. Constituents unable to meet with Yaw’s staff that day may also call the Senator’s Towanda office at 265-7448, or his toll-free number, 1-800-443-5772, with questions and concerns.
