Financial Aid Night At Susquehanna Comm.

Susquehanna Community High School in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA), will be hosting a free Financial Aid Night for students and families on December 15, at 6:30 p.m. in the High School Auditorium. Parents and students can learn about the process of financial aid. They will learn timelines of when to start applying for financial aid and deadlines for colleges. Parents and students will learn how to apply for financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is required for most student aid programs. Also, they will learn about state grants and federal pell grants. A student-aid expert from PHEAA will be available to provide information and answer any questions that parents and students might have about the whole financial aid process. Local Teens To Receive Coats

The American Legion Gardner Warner Post 154 in Montrose, PA announced that it is assisting in the distribution of 100,000 new teen coats which have been donated by Aeropostale, Inc. The American Legion Post 154 received 500 coats, which were designed exclusively for this outreach program. More than 120 agencies were brought together by One Warm Coat to handle the distribution of the coats in all 50 States.

The Coats for the Community Program was started 4 years ago by Salene Herman, a member of the Post. The program started out donating coats, hats, gloves, scarves and blankets to families in need in local communities.

Coats for the Community asks for donations of slightly used, clean coats from individuals and from schools and churches in the county. The program has been getting donations of coats from Burlington Coat Factory the past 3 years. This year they have gotten donations from Old Navy along with the 500 coats from Aeropostale. In addition, over $1,000.00 worth of kids coats were purchased over the past 3 years.

So far this year, without the coats from Aeropostale, the Post donated over 1100 coats to individuals from 5 different distribution sites throughout Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties.

The next distribution of coats will be December 7, 8, 9, and 10 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the American Legion Post 154 on the South Montrose to Elk Lake road.

The Post accepts donations of slightly used, clean coats at the Post or you can drop them off at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Montrose. You can make monetary donations to the American Legion Post 154, RR #4, Box 223C, Montrose, PA 18801 and note on your check that it’s for the Coat Program. You can call the Post at 278-1649 for information on the Coats for the Community Program and for future distribution dates and sites.

Advent Scripture At St. John’s

This year's annual community Advent Scripture and Song Worship Celebration, hosted by the clergy and churches of the Tri-Boro Ministerium, is planned for Sunday, December 13, beginning at 3:00 p.m. in St. John's Church, Susquehanna.

Featuring readings and beautiful musical selections presented by the various churches, plus the return of the Note-A-Bells bell choir, this worship service is always a highlight of the Advent/Christmas season as hearts are prepared to welcome the coming of the Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.

All are welcome, regardless of church affiliation. A free-will offering will be received to support the local compassion ministry of the Ministerium.
