Student Shoots For The Heart

When Kenny Kiefer, a junior at Montrose Area High School was contemplating what he would like to do for his Graduation Project he automatically thought about hosting a benefit trap shoot.

Shooting trap and skeet is something that Kenny has been doing for about 8 years through 4-H, and for the past two years Kenny has been shooting with the Silver Lake Rod & Gun Club in their winter trap league. Kenny also participated in the Susquehanna County Trap League this spring. He knew that if he picked something that he enjoyed it would make doing his graduation project a little easier.

With some guidance from his graduation project advisor, Mr. Powers, and working together with his mentor and 4-H Leader, Rip VanWinkle, he put his project in motion. Kenny decided to donate the proceeds from his benefit trap shoot to the American Heart Association in memory of his Grandfather, Ed Conboy, who passed away from heart disease.

At first he thought that he would aim to raise at least $1,000 to donate to the American Heart Association but quickly found out that through the generosity of businesses, friends, family and members of his community that he would surpass his goal. On June 6, Kenny hosted his benefit trap shoot at the Silver Lake Rod & Gun Club. Between the registration fees, food sold, bake sale and basket raffle Kenny raised over $2,300 to donate to the American Heart Association. Kenny would like to thank everyone who helped in any way make his graduation project a huge success. Pictured above Kenny Kiefer donates a check from his Trap Shoot Benefit to Cindy Pittenger, Youth Marketing Director for the American Heart Association.
