Audubon Announces $4,000 Scholarship

The Northeast Pennsylvania Audubon Society announced it is offering a $4,000 college scholarship to students who wish to pursue a career in one of the environmental sciences. The applicants must be from Pike, Wayne, Lackawanna, or Susquehanna County and must enroll in a degree program in a full-time accredited college or university. The winning applicant will receive $1,000 per year, for four years.

Interested students can find the application form at www.nepaaudubonsociety.org, or they can use the universal scholarship application form available at school guidance offices. Deadline for applications is April 1.

Ellen Reavey Is Studying Abroad

Thompson resident Ellen Reavey is currently studying abroad through the Boston University (BU) International Programs office. A Biomedical Engineering major at BU’s College of Engineering, Ellen is currently enrolled in the Dresden Engineering Program through the end of the Spring, 2009 semester. Ellen is scheduled to graduate from BU in 2011.

Local Students On LCCC Dean’s List

Luzerne County Community College announced that the following students have earned recognition for outstanding academic achievement during the fall, 2008 semester. To qualify for the President’s List, a student must earn a 4.0 cumulative grade point average. Students who attain a grade point average between 3.5 and 3.99 are included on the Dean’s List, and those with an average between 3.25 and 3.49 are included on the Honors List.

Tina R. Curley Earns Degree

Chicago, IL – Tina R. Curley of Laceyville has been awarded an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Business Administration from Kaplan University. Tina's accomplishment was celebrated during a live graduation ceremony on January 31 in Miami.

Local Students Make Widener Dean’s List

Widener University School of Law Dean Linda L. Ammons announced the Fall, 2008 Dean's List of students for the Delaware campus. Students named to the list earned a grade point average in the top 20 percent of their class and division for the semester. The students are working toward Juris Doctor Degrees. The list includes local students Ryan Turner, Carbondale and Jessica Connor, Forest City.

Blue Ridge Students “Wish Upon A Star”

Blue Ridge Elementary kindergartners joined together on Tuesday, February 3 to give audiences a show they won’t soon forget! The theme for this year’s show was When You Wish Upon a Star. Students danced to the songs, Hey Good Lookin’, Hound Dog, Take Me Out to the Ballgame, Be Our Guest, You’re a Grand Old Flag, and When You Wish Upon a Star. Scenery was also created by the kindergarteners. It consisted of colorful stars against a black backdrop. The stage show was created and directed by Artist in Residence, Mrs. Billye Kubiak. This is the fourth year that Mrs. Kubiak has visited Blue Ridge to work with the kindergarteners. This program satisfies the Arts & Humanities Standards for the kindergarten curriculum.
