Bradley Bryant Enlists In Navy

Civilian Bradley J. Bryant, son of Andrew J. Bryant of Little Meadows, recently enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Pittsburgh, PA.

The program allows recruits to enter the Navy and take up to one year to complete prior commitments such as high school. Using recruiters as mentors, this program helps recruits ease into the transition from civilian to military life.

Bradley will report for active duty to undergo basic training at the Navy's Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, IL.

Bradley is completing his senior year at Montrose Area High School.

Locals Participate In Inauguration

More than 7,000 Army and Air National Guard members from 31 states and territories provided the 2009 Presidential Inauguration with military working dogs, consequence management planning, ceremonial, logistics, and medical support through the Armed Forces Inaugural Committee. National Guard members also assisted local authorities with crowd management, traffic control, and emergency services operations.

Following are local personnel who participated in the 56th Presidential Inauguration on January 20, 2009.

Army National Guard Sgt. Amos H. Dixon, an infantryman with 14 years of military service, is a member of the 1st Battalion, 109th Infantry, New Milford. The sergeant graduated in 1995 from Mountain View High School.

Army National Guard Sgt. Christopher S. Six, an infantryman with six years of military service, is a member of the 1st Battalion, 109th Infantry, New Milford. He is the son of Deano C. Six of Great Bend, and Melody M. McDonnell of Newark, Ohio. The sergeant graduated in 2004 from Licking Valley High School, Newark.

Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Ernest H. Smith, Jr., an infantryman with 14 years of military service, is a member of the 1st Battalion, 109th Infantry, New Milford. He is the son of Paula J. Ralston of Nicholson, and brother of Christina M. Spoor of Thompson. His wife, Angel, is the daughter of Gary G. and Terry Sterling of South Montrose. The sergeant graduated in 1996 from Susquehanna Community High School.

Army National Guard Pfc. Michael J. Brown, a human resource specialist, is a member of the 55th Brigade Special Troops Battalion based in Scranton. The guard member has served in the military for one year. He is the son of Jo Ann M. Brown of Hop Bottom. The guardsman graduated in 2008 from Mountain View High School.

Army National Guard Pfc. William E. Hillier, a multi-channel transmission system operator, is a member of the 55th Brigade Special Troops Battalion based in Scranton. The guard member has served in the military for two years. He is the son of William R. and Barbara J. Hillier of Montrose. The guardsman graduated in 2005 from Lackawanna Trail High School.
