Mt. View FBLA Team Excels At Regionals
By Michaela Gates, Mt. View FBLA Reporter

On December 18, the Mt. View Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) organization traveled to Keystone College for the Regional Leadership Conference. We spent the day taking tests, touring the Keystone campus and meeting new people. While we were there, we realized how many people shared our interests. Our FBLA chapter had 70 high school students and 30 middle level students (grades 7-8). Out of those who participated, 27 individuals and teams placed.

In fifth place were Erika Lewis in Accounting 2, Andi Mason in Computer Applications, and Brittany Resseguie in Cyber Security. Placing third were the Global Business Team of David Krizauskas, Mike Aherne and Chase McLaud, the Entrepreneurship team of Seth Tiffany, Olivia Zick and Ryan Walsh, the Management Decision Making Team of Josh Pfahl and Jimmy Gething and Brittany Chubirka in Client Service. Our Middle Level students placing fifth were Katie Hartman in Proofreading and Editing, and Kyla Mills in Current Events. In second place, Logan Palmiter in Career Exploration and Chris Hartman in Current Events. First place for the middle level included Jimmy O’Brien in Career Exploration, and Julianna Jarnagin in Proofreading and Editing.

The State Leadership Conference will take place in March in Hershey, PA. The team representing Mt. View is as follows: fourth place were Nate Suchnick in Computer Problem Solving, and Cody Robbins in Technology Concepts. Third place were Beth Kavka in Business Law, Angie Pulice in Help Desk, and Billy Owens in Personal Finance. The second place included Angela Ferrence in Business Calculations, and Sarah Bradley in Economics. First place finishers were David Corbin in Business Law, Jessica Short in Ms. Future Business Leader, Calla Bufford in Computer Applications, Tessa Sheridan in Database Design, Eric Congdon in Technology Concepts, the Network Design Team of Kenny Mason, Kyle Wilkins and Cheyenne Santoriello, and the Parliamentary Procedure Team of Sondra Fallon, Jordan Harvey, Jill Roeske and Daisy Matulevich.

Congratulations to the Mountain View FBLA Middle Level for placing first in the region! Congratulations to those who are continuing on to the State Conference in Hershey. Good Luck!

Susky High Students In Regional Art Show

Several Susquehanna Community High School students received acceptance to the 2009 Regional Scholastics Show, held on Saturday, January 17 at Marywood College.

Junior Kaitlin Callendar received a Silver Key for recognition and a Gold Key for Excellence in the category of Graphic Design. Her poster will advance to National Level.

Junior Megan Garcia received a Silver Key for recognition for her "Call for Entries" poster design.

Junior Kyla Kemmerer was also accepted to the exhibit with her John Lennon Illustration/Design poster. Kyla also recently received one of the prestigious Artists of the Month designations for the calendar year of 2009; look for her headlining spot in the fall. Her winning illustration, along with several runner ups (Kayshia Kruger, Alexandria Dominick and Chelsea Henry) will all be on display at the Times Tribune Building in Scranton for February's First Friday, February 6 from 6-9 p.m. (this is a separate exhibit from the Scholastics at Marywood.)

Senior Molly Edwards was also accepted to the scholastics exhibit, with her winning photograph that was taken as a staff member of yearbook.

This is the first time Susquehanna Community has entered into the Graphic Design Category, and every entry for the category was accepted. The young artists are students of Mrs. Jime Grabowski. In addition to teaching high school, Mrs. Grabowski also is a freelance illustrator/designer and adjuncts at local colleges. She believes these students are exceptional examples of how young people seek modern challenges and can deliver creative solutions in a tech-savy, communication-orientated world as future professionals and creative leaders.
