JOHN MICHAEL STANEK, JR.

John Michael Stanek, Jr., 70, Oakland, PA, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the Barnes-Kasson Hospital, Susquehanna, PA, after an illness.

He was born in Long Beach, NY, the son of the late John and Evelyn (Knittle) Stanek, Sr.

He was predeceased by a son, John M. Stanek, III in 1971.

John is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Susan (Cavanaugh) Stanek; one brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Barbara Stanek, Del-Norte, CO; one sister, Evelyn Richmond, Ontario, CA; mother-in-law, Betty Cavanaugh; four brothers-in-law, Donald Cavanaugh, Raymond and Virginia Ayres, Larry and Fran Cavanaugh, Tim Cavanaugh; one sister-in-law, Kathy and Ozzie Miller; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and his faithful companions, Ginger and Callie.

John was a veteran of the United States Army, in which he served over eight years. He retired from the Norfolk Southern Railroad after 35 years of service for the railroad industry and was secretary of the Brotherhood of Maintenance and Way Employee Lodge #1045.

A memorial and committal service was held on Monday, July 14 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Susquehanna with Rev. Carl Batzel officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Susquehanna County Humane Society, Montrose, PA.
