Alana Speth Graduates From Smith College

Alana E. Speth, daughter of Dee Speth and Shirley Meyer Speth, Nicholson, received a bachelor’s degree from Smith College, Northampton, MA on Sunday, May 18.

A 2004 graduate of Mt. View High School, Alana majored in History at Smith.

Her undergraduate activities included work in the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Library and Museum. She completed an internship with the Jefferson Foundation of Monticello.

Alana will be pursuing her Masters Degree in History at the College of William and Mary this fall.

Jarrod Hall Receives GAAS Scholarship

The Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium (GAAS) Scholarship Committee announced that Jarrod Hall, New Milford, is a recipient of a 2008 GAAS scholarship. Jarrod will be attending Universal Technical Institute in Exton, PA. GAAS scholarships, each in the amount of $1,000 were awarded to 115 students in 2008. To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled full-time in a college-level program or a National Automotive Technician Education Foundation certified automotive technical program. The scholarship is also unique, in that recipients who graduate from their program and show proof of employment as a technician in the automotive aftermarket for at least six months after graduation can receive a second matching grant.

Jennifer Grausgruber Makes BU Dean’s List

Jennifer Grausgruber, Susquehanna, has been named to the Spring, 2008 semester Dean’s List at the Decker School of Nursing at Binghamton University, State University of New York. The criteria for the Dean’s Honors list is a minimum grade point average of 3.5.

John T. Grausgruber, Binghamton, NY, a graduate of Susquehanna Community High School, has recently completed college training at Elmira Business Institute in Vestal, NY. He finished with a membership in the National Honor Society, with a GPA of 3.8. John has a certificate in Medical Coding and Billing, and is a Certified Professional Coder. He has just recently accepted a position to work at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA.

John is the son of Joann M. Perry, Susquehanna, PA and the late John T. Grausgruber, Sr.

Area Students Earn Keystone Honors

Dr. Robert Cook, interim vice president and dean of academic affairs, at Keystone College, LaPlume, PA, announced the full-time students who have been named to the President’s, Dean’s, and Honors List for the 2008 spring semester. Full-time students who complete 12 credits and achieve a grade point average of 4.00 are named to the President’s List. To qualify for the Dean’s and Honors List, students must complete 12 credits and achieve a grade point average of 3.70-3.99 and 3.50-3.69 respectively. Montrose DAR Awards Winemiller Scholarship

The Montrose Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution is pleased to announce the Janet Winemiller Scholarship winner of 2008. Emilie L. Mitchell, a senior at Elk Lake High School was awarded $500 and a certificate on May 19 at the school. Emilie wrote a moving essay about tolerance, citing the Holocaust and the atrocities at Darfur. She will be attending Gannon University and plans to obtain a Masters Degree in Nursing. Nicholas Harasymczuk On York Dean’s List

York College of Pennsylvania named Nicholas Harasymczuk of Montrose to its Dean's List for Spring Semester, 2008. To receive this distinction, students must carry at least 12 academic credit hours and attain a semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Nicholas, a graduate of Montrose Area High School, is pursuing a degree in sport management with minors in business management and marketing. He is the son of Louis and Christine Harasymczuk.

Local Students Graduate University Of Scranton

The University of Scranton conferred 1,561 degrees at two commencement ceremonies, representing the largest graduating class in the 120-year history of the Jesuit school.

On Saturday, May 24, Scranton conferred a record number of post-baccalaureate degrees (647 master’s degrees and 36 doctoral degrees) at its commencement ceremony in the Byron Recreation Complex on campus.

On Sunday, May 25, The University of Scranton conferred 878 bachelor’s and associate’s degrees at its undergraduate commencement ceremony at Wachovia Arena.
