Local Students Graduate Penn State University

The following Susquehanna County students graduated from Penn State University and received degrees at commencement ceremonies held in May.

Michael J. Dominick, Clifford, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Kevin G. Turano, Browndale, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business, With Distinction.

Sarah M. Bollinger, Montrose, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Professional Writing, With High Distinction.

Victoria A. Strope, Brackney, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary And Kindergarten Education, With Distinction.

Anthony F. Capotosto, Friendsville, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Landscape Contracting, With Distinction.

Kathryn Kerr, Hallstead, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business.

Local Students Earn Academic Honors

Luzerne County Community College announced the following county students have earned recognition for outstanding academic achievement during the spring 2008 semester.

To qualify for the President’s List, a student must earn a 4.0 cumulative grade point average. Students who attain a grade point average between 3.5 and 3.99 are included on the Dean’s List, and those with an average between 3.25 and 3.49 are included on the Honors List.

DEAN’S LIST: Karen Bailey, Susquehanna; Amy Bush, Dimock; Joshua Carpenter, New Milford; Lenthel Drachler, Montrose; Terri Husted, Nicholson; Alan Mindas, Forest City; Roseann Paul, Union Dale; Patricia Roe, Meshoppen; Michael Whitney, Montrose; Kayla Wilczewski, Forest City.

Jonathan Eddy Graduates Reading With Honors

Jonathan Eddy graduated cum laude on June 13, 2008 from Reading Area Community College in Reading, PA with an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Electrical Utility Technology. Jon is a 2006 graduate of Montrose Area High School.

Jonathan is the son of Patrick and Holly Eddy, Montrose and grandson of James and Rita Eddy, and Albert and Lucille Hewitt of Montrose.

He has accepted a position with Penelec in Tunkhannock, PA.

SCHS Students Receive Attendance Awards

Fourteen students had perfect attendance during the past school year at Susquehanna Community High School. They include seventh grader Melissa Kukowski; eighth graders Aaron Arthur, Thomas Maby, Austin Sampson, Melissa Valentine, Jeffrey Wayman; freshmen Alexis Fiske and Timothy Sager. Also achieving perfect attendance were sophomore Scott Arthur; juniors Scott Fisher, Justin Redington, Lacey Sholtiss, Anthony Wayman; senior Lucas Marion. Highlighting the attendance achievement is Lucas Marion, who had perfect attendance throughout his entire school career except for two days as an eighth grader. Each student received a mint-condition silver dollar to commemorate their accomplishment during the attendance awards program held on the school TV station Susquehanna News Network (SNN).
