Obituaries

GERTRUDE R. WOOD

Gertrude R. Wood, 86, of Hallstead, PA, passed away June 22, 2008 in Barnes-Kasson Skilled Nursing Facility. She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence E. Wood in 1993.

Surviving are four daughters, Virginia and Earl Decker, Linda and Larry Coleman, Josephine DiGeorgio, and Joyce Blackington; two sons, George and Aretha Wood, and Harold and Marjorie Wood; ten grandchildren, Joanne and Bruce Bowen, Robert Decker, Shawn Coleman, Julie and Sean Connors, Steven H. Wood, Tara Blackington, Raymond Eads, Karen Eads, Mary Jo and Billie DiGeorgio; many great-grandchildren; two brothers, Stanley Sturdevant, and Amos and Betty Sturdevant; several nieces and nephews.

Gertrude was a member of the United Methodist Community Church, Great Bend, PA and a life member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #6223.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 25, at the Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home, Hallstead, PA. Interment will be made at the Vestal Park Cemetery, Vestal, NY. Friends may call at the funeral home, Wednesday from 10-11 a.m., prior to the service.

WILBUR “BILL” SWEAZEY

Wilbur “Bill” Sweazey, 79, Susquehanna, PA, formerly of Millington, NJ, passed away June 23, 2008, after a brief illness. Bill is survived by Nancy Sweazey, his beloved wife of 51 years.

Also surviving are their children, Linda Carroll, Kempner TX, Marilyn Stecker, Quakertown, PA, Kathleen O’Brien and husband Jim, Gillette, NJ, Thomas Sweazey and wife Sharon, Pohatcong, NJ, and James Sweazey, Glen Gardner, NJ; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Bill was a retired, self-employed auto mechanic and he was a Navy veteran. He enjoyed hunting and was a wildlife and nature lover.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home, Hallstead, PA.

KENNETH C. COLWELL

Kenneth C. Colwell, 95, formerly of RR 2 Susquehanna, PA passed away Monday, June 23, 2008 at Lourdes Hospital. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth L. (Decker) Colwell and his second wife, Marcella E. (Gathany) Colwell, and a son, Willard E. Colwell.

Surviving are his children, Joyce E. Valentine, Robert B. and Shelby Colwell, Edward M. and Dorothea Colwell, Paul L. Colwell, Harold A. and Lorraine Colwell, Esther R. Frantz, Eugene D. Colwell, Debra A. and Bob Wood; three brothers, Merle W. and Gertrude Colwell, Arnold and Jane Colwell, Ronald Colwell; five sisters-in-law, Florance Colwell, Olive Colwell, Helen Oakley, Shirley Colwell, Mary Holtzman; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

Kenneth was a member of the Locust Hill Bible Church and served the congregation as a deacon for many years. He was the owner and operator of a dairy farm as well as a trucking and hauling service.

A funeral service was held on Friday, June 27, at the Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home, Hallstead, PA, with Pastor Fred Johnson officiating. Interment, Newman Cemetery.
