AVIS JESSE MacCONNELL

Avis Jesse MacConnell, 95, formerly of Harford, PA, passed away November 11, 2007 at Barnes-Kasson Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband, William H. MacConnell in 1994.

Surviving are her children, Jerry and Joanne MacConnell, Nancy Sutton, and Nadine and John Joseph DeCavage; seven grandchildren, Dr. Patrick and Amy MacConnell, Nichole and Michael Rosa, Randy and Jocelyn Sutton, Colleen and Brian Nichols, Lisa and Dan Lee, Vanessa and Nathan Hodge, Melissa DeCavage; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Jesse, Marion Pickering; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by four brothers, Wayne Jesse, Mitchell Jesse, Harold Jesse, Kenneth Jesse; one son-in-law, Raymond Sutton.

Avis was a member of the First congregational Church of Harford. She had a great love for making crafts and supplied her children, grandchildren, and neighbors with all kinds of Christmas tree decorations.

Avis and William were front row attendees at every Pennay’s Auction and many other antique auctions throughout the county. They enjoyed their annual lawn sale at the Harford Fair time.

Avis was a standout basketball player and track and field participant for the Harford Vocational High School, and some of her records still stand. She participated on many bowling teams in Great Bend. Avis was a member of the Harford Willing Workers and the Rebekah Lodge.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 15 at the Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home, Hallstead, with Pastor Patricia White officiating. Interment, the Harford Cemetery.

Should friends so desire, expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation to the Harford Willing Workers or the First Congregational Church of Harford.

CLAIR W. YOUNG

Clair William Young, 87, New Milford, PA, passed away November 12, 2007. Born in 1920, he was the son of the late Paul W. and Cecile Boyer Young.

Clair is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, M. Marie Young; one son and daughter-in-law, John W. and Marina M. Young; one granddaughter, Mariel E. Young; one grandson, Paul W. Young; five sisters and their husbands, Helen and Ben Trapani, Mary Louise and Sherman Denius, Charlotte Frederick, Eleanor and Walter Adams, Patricia and William Prichett; one brother and his wife, G. Robert and Elaine Young; several nieces and nephews.

Clair was a graduate of Mifflinburg High School and Lock Haven State College. He received his Master’s Degree from Springfield College, and completed graduate work at the University of Scranton. He was a World War II veteran, serving as a flight navigator in the Army Air Corps.

Clair taught at Mifflinburg High School, Mooseheart, IL and Blue Ridge High School. In 1968 he became principal of Blue Ridge High School and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the Odd Fellows, a life member of the Rotary Club, the American Legion, the VFW, and the Columbia Hose Company. He enjoyed gardening and trout fishing. Clair was a member of the New Milford United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 16 from the New Milford United Methodist Church. Interment, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lock Haven, PA. Arrangements were made by the Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home, Hallstead.
