HEADLINES: Scranton, PA – Lieutenant Colonel Martin J. Kane was promoted to his present rank at a recent ceremony at Fort Indiantown Gap, Annville, PA. Lt. Col. Martin J. Kane Kane is assigned as the commander of the 55th Brigade Special Troops Battalion. With units in Scranton, Philadelphia, and Lehighton, the Special Troops Battalion provides the 55th Brigade Combat Team with combat support. The battalion contains military intelligence, communications, combat engineer, and military police units. Lieutenant Colonel Kane is a 1976 graduate of Montrose Area High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He joined the Pennsylvania Army National Guard in 1985. He served as a Mortar Platoon Leader, Infantry Platoon Leader, and Mechanized Infantry Platoon Leader. He commanded two Mechanized Infantry Companies as well as HHC 55 BDE. Kane served as a Bn Intelligence Officer (S2), Logistics Officer (S4), Operations Officer (S3) during deployment to Bosnia-Herzegovina, and most recently as the Executive Officer of 1st Battalion, 109th Infantry during deployment to Iraq. Lieutenant Colonel Kane’s awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (5 awards), Pennsylvania Commendation Medal, and Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and is a graduate student at Temple University. Kane is employed as the Student Facilitator at the Northern Tier Career Center in Towanda. He resides near Montrose with his wife, Jackie and son, James. His daughter, Jessica is a graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and is assigned to Sector Delaware Bay, Philadelphia.
