Elk Lake Elementary Students Of The Month

Mr. Charles Pirone, Elementary Principal at the Elk Lake School, is pleased to announce the May, 2007 Student of the Month Award winners.

Students in kindergarten, first, and second grades were selected by their homeroom teachers. Students may be selected as student of the month from four different areas. Those four areas are academic achievement, attendance, citizenship and most improved.

Elk Lake is proud of their students and congratulates them for their accomplishments.

County Principals Honor Students

On May 8, the elementary school principals of Susquehanna County honored one outstanding student from each school. Each student was selected from the highest grade within the elementary school. The recipients of these “Principal Awards” were selected by teachers and each principal. The students were chosen for outstanding scholarship, citizenship, attendance, and overall merit within the school community.

A luncheon was held at the Green Gables Restaurant in New Milford. The students also received certificates which recognized their accomplishment. These students were honored by their principals: (pictured above, l-r): Raymond Polak of Susquehanna Community by Robert Keyes, Lewis Esposito of Blue Ridge by Robert Dietz, Theresa Staats of Lathrop Street (Montrose) by Greg Adams, Taryn Maleski of Lackawanna Trail by Bonnie Gregory, Tyler Chidester of Mountain View by Margaret Foster, Samantha Poirier of Choconut (Montrose) by Christopher McComb, Kati VanEtten of Elk Lake by Charles Pirone, and Bridget Terry of Forest City by Kenneth Swartz. In addition, the principals awarded a $100 savings bond to Bridget Terry. All of the principals are extremely proud of each student’s accomplishments.

ELESPA Recognizes Good Ambassadors

 

Five Elk Lake seniors were presented with $100.00 savings bonds by the Elk Lake Educational Support Personal Association (ELESPA) at the awards program held at Elk Lake School on Monday, May 21. These students were voted by the members of the ELESPA as "Good Ambassadors for Elk Lake." Josh Wood, Brandon Wilson, Matt Wallikas, Kristin Shingler and Carly Dibble were selected as this year’s "Good Ambassadors". The ELESPA was pleased to acknowledge students who represent Elk Lake in many ways and areas in a positive manner. Abbey Puzo Named USAA Award Winner

The United States Achievement Academy (USAA) announced that Abbey Puzo, Montrose, has been named a United States National Award Winner in Cheerleading. Abbey, who attends Montrose Area High School, was nominated for this award by Petrina Gregory, a cheerleading coach at the school. Abbey will appear in the USAA official yearbook, which is published nationally. The criteria for selection are a student’s academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, citizenship, attitude and cooperative spirit, dependability, and recommendation from a qualified sponsor.

Abbey is the daughter of Douglas and Mary Puzo, Montrose, and the granddaughter of Bill and Evie Goff, Montrose, Sandy Wood, Brackney, and Patsy Jenner and Lane Puzo, Montrose.

Travis Hoadley On Bucknell Dean’s List

Lewisburg, PA – Bucknell University released the Dean’s List for outstanding academic achievement during the spring semester of the 2006-07 academic year. A student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a scale of 4.0 to receive Dean’s List recognition. Meeting this standard from our area was Travis D. Hoadley, Hop Bottom.
