EL Team Wraps Winning Season

The Elk Lake Forensics Team opened their Scranton Catholic Forensics League season by bringing home four trophies at the league’s first tournament of the season on December 16 at Lake Lehman High School.

EL Forensics Team Champions at the Scranton CFL Tournament at Lake Lehman HS on December 16 (l-r) are: Ryne Carney – First Place in Novice Student Congress, Molly Copeland – First Place in Varsity LD Debate, Max McKeon – Second Place in Varsity Student Congress, Brad Flower – Sixth Place in Varsity Extemporaneous Speaking.

Three varsity team members, in three different events, captured trophies for Elk Lake in their final tournament of the first half of their season.

Leading the team, in Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate was senior Molly Copeland. After compiling a 3 win and 1 loss record in the preliminary rounds, Copeland advanced to the Finals and defeated Meyers High School junior, Erin Koolman on a unanimous decision and captured the Varsity LD Debate title.

In Novice Student Congress, sophomore Ryne Carney, in his first tournament back after a season away from forensics, brought home championship honors.

Junior Max McKeon earned a second place trophy in Varsity Student Congress after a solid performance.

Senior Brad Flower, in Varsity Extemporaneous Speaking, made EL Forensics Team history by being the first EL competitor in Extemporaneous Speaking to ever advance to the Final rounds at a Scranton CFL Tournament. Flower placed sixth in finals.

“This was an incredible end to the first half of our season. However, we all know that there is a lot of work to do if we hope to continue the successes that we had today in the second half of the season,” commented EL Forensics Director Keith Brosious.

The team opens the second half of its season on January 12-13 at the LaSalle Forum Tournament at LaSalle College High School in Wyndmoor, PA. They then travel to EL Meyers High School in Wilkes-Barre for the annual Martin Luther King Tournament on January 20.
