St. Paul’s Church Sets Christmas Services Historic St. Paul’s Church, located at the corner of Church and Chestnut Sts., Montrose, has announced the schedule of services for Christmas Eve, December 24, and plans to aid needy in the area. In a letter to all parishioners of St. Paul’s, Rachel Warriner Bartron, the parish’s Senior Warden has written, “As we welcome God’s gift of Jesus into our lives this year, the parish will donate 10%, or a biblical tithe, of the Christmas Eve plate offering to the needy of our community through the Montrose Ministry of Christian Response. This will be our way of sharing God’s love with others.” “On Sunday morning, December 24, we will complete our preparation for the celebration of Christmas with a worship service at 9 a.m.,” said Father Cesaretti, the parish’s interim rector. “We will light the fourth candle on the Advent Wreath, and read in the Gospel Luke’s account of Mary’s visit to her cousin Elizabeth.” Immediately following the morning service, the parish’s Altar Guild and the Church School Scholars will lead the congregation in the traditional “greening,” or decorating of the Church for the Christmas Celebration. At 5 p.m., the first of two worship services will be held. The Children’s Christmas Service will begin at 5 p.m. The children of the parish will gather to welcome the birth of Jesus. The Church School Scholars will sing a special anthem at the service. “The children are excited to sing at the service this year,” reports Dawn Washo, who directs the children’s choir. “The excitement has been building each Sunday as we prepare the anthem for the Christmas Eve Service.” At 11 p.m., the traditional Festive Eucharist of Christmas will be held, with special music provided by the St. Paul’s Choir. Information regarding services is available by calling 278-2954.
The Susquehanna County Commissioners announce the Courthouse will be closed on Monday, December 25, 3006, in observance of Christmas Day. All court related offices will be available.
