CE1 Michael C. Fields, US Navy, Retires

On July 6, a program was held at the Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek, Norfolk, Virginia in honor of CE1 Michael C. Fields who retired after more than twenty years’ service in the US Navy.

CE1 Fields’ last assignment was to Combat Service Support Detachment Two as Assistant Platoon Commander. He reported to Naval Special Warfare Group Logistics and Support Unit Two in September, 2002.

Petty Officer Fields was born in West Point, NY on July 30, 1967. He graduated from Susquehanna Community High School in June, 1985 and enlisted in the Navy in August, 1985. He attended Recruit Training at Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, IL, as a member of CO 933, The State Flag Company. He attended Construction Electrician “A” School in Gulfport, MS and then transferred to Public Works Department, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. After transferring in September, 1987, he served with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 62 in Gulfport, MS where he made deployments to Guam and the Philippines. In July, 1989, he transferred to Naval Air Station, Glenview IL. Then he reported to Naval Construction Training Center in Gulfport in October, 1991 for cable splicing C. School. After NCTC, he transferred in  January, 1992 to Public Works Department, Guantanamo Bay where he was the LPO of the High Voltage Department. He transferred to CE C1 Advance in June, 1995 to Naval Construction Training Center, Gulfport until September, 1995. In transit he was advanced to Petty Officer First Class upon arriving at Construction Battalion unit 422, Washington, D.C. where he was the platoon Commander. In September, 1998 he was transferred to Naval Support Unit State Department, Washington, D.C. In September, 2002 he was transferred to Naval Special Warfare Group Two, Little Creek, VA where he was deployed to CENTCOM in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, as well as to SOUTHCOM, EUCOM and PACOM in support of teams and units.

Petty Officer Fields is authorized to wear the following decorations: Joint Service Commendation Medal (2 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards), Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Joint Meritorious Unit Award (2 awards) Navy Unit Commendation (2), Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal (6), National Defense Medal (2), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal (2), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (5), Overseas Service Ribbon (6), SOS Coast Guard, NATO Medal, Sharpshooter Rifleman, Sharpshooter Pistol.

CE1 Fields resides in Virginia Beach, VA with his wife, Hanane, sons, John and Todd and daughters, Maria and Dalia.
