St. Paul’s Easter Eve Service Set

Features Ancient Liturgy And Special Music

The Easter Eve service at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Montrose, will have a unique feature this year. The Mountain Aire Brass will provide the music for the first service celebrating Easter, called the Easter Vigil. The Vigil is the central and most important liturgy of the Christian year. The service will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 15.

The Easter Vigil is divided into four parts – the Service of Light, The Liturgy of the Word, the Liturgy of Holy Baptism, and the Liturgy of the Eucharist. During this ancient service, the Paschal Candle is lighted, scripture readings recall the history of the people of God, baptism is administered to welcome new Christians, and the Lord’s Supper is celebrated.

Easter service at St. Paul’s will feature Mountain Aire Brass (pictured l-r) Jay Kosta, Bill Printz, Jack Moulton, Ron Shoemaker, and Jay Thornton.

To punctuate both the solemnity of the liturgy, as well as the joy, the Mountain Aire Brass will present special music, including The Solemn Procession by Richard Strauss, Swing Low Sweet Chariot, and the Saints Hallelujah, arranged by Henderson.

On Easter Sunday, April 16, worship services will be held at 8 and 10 AM. St. Paul’s Choir, under the direction of Mr. Scott Zimmerman, will be present at both services.

The second Images of Susquehanna County is a juried art exhibition to be held in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. The ELRC is hosting this exhibition to celebrate the beauty, history and charm of the County, including the Endless Mountains, its people, the beautiful rolling farm fields of the rural communities, the hundreds of lakes and streams, the forest riches and more. Works are to be inspired by Susquehanna County though they need not be representational. Call for Entry may be downloaded from the Conservancy’s website at www.elrose.org.
