Senior Menu January 31 - February 4

Monday, January 31: pork chop, mashed potatoes, broccoli and cauliflower, ten grain bread, graham cracker with peanut butter, mandarin oranges.

Tuesday, February 1: barbecue chicken breast, home style baked beans, coleslaw, dinner roll, pineapple, granola bar.

Wednesday, February 2: Salisbury steak with gravy and noodles, tossed salad, spinach, seeded rye bread, fresh apple.

Thursday, February 3: sliced ham, cooked peas, sweet potatoes, ten grain bread, graham crackers, apricots.

Free Tax Assistance For Area Taxpayers

AARP’s Tax-Aide Program will be providing free tax assistance to low- or moderate-income taxpayers, with special attention to those age 60 and older in the Susquehanna County area. Tax-Aide volunteers are trained in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Tax-Aide volunteers will be at the following locations on the days indicated from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Appointments may be made at the sites, or by calling the number listed.

Monday - Wednesday, February 7 - 9: Susquehanna County Office Building, Montrose, 1-800-634-3746.

Monday, February 28: Lawton Senior Center, Lawton, 1-800-763-8925.

Monday - Wednesday, March 7 - 9: Susquehanna County Office Building, Montrose, 1-800-634-3746.

Attention Residents Of New Milford

USDA Rural Development has announced it has 1% loans for sewer hookups. USDA staff will be available to answer questions or assist with an application on Wednesday, January 26, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the New Milford Borough Building. (Snow date Tuesday, February 1, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.)

Please bring the deed to your property, written verification of income and estimate of the cost for connection to the sewer system.

County Library Annual Meeting

The Susquehanna County Historical Society & Free Library Association's annual meeting will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2 p.m., in the St. Paul's Episcopal Church Hall (Church St., Montrose). Reports on the Association's activities during 2004 will be presented. After the business portion of the meeting, refreshments will be served, and then the entertainment portion will begin, featuring a program about the newly-restored Civil War Monument on Montrose's Village Green.

Everyone is invited to the annual meeting – there is no charge. Members of the Association are entitled to vote at the meeting and help support library and historical society services across the county. For more information about membership, visit your local library or call 278-1881.
