HEADLINES: Elk Lake Debater Crushes Competition The Elk Lake Forensics Team successfully opened its 13th season of competition on Saturday, November 13 at the James M. Langan Memorial Tournament at Scranton High School. In Novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Molly Copeland, competing in her first tournament in LD Debate, placed first. Copeland compiled an undefeated, four win and no loss record in the preliminary rounds. During those rounds, she defeated debaters from Holy Ghost Prep, Truman, and Notre Dame high schools. In her semi-final round, Copeland won a unanimous decision over Adam Bouc from Southern Lehigh High School. Copeland compiled another unanimous decision, this time over Hae Li Lim from Central Columbia, in finals. As a result of this, Copeland picked up every judges ballot all day. “This was a great start for Molly’s debating career. She clearly has a great deal of potential,” commented Elk Lake Forensics Director Keith Brosious. The Elk Lake Forensics Team was scheduled for competition in a Scranton Catholic Forensics League Tournament at the University of Scranton on December 4.
