Roseann Barnes Gets Teaching Citation On April 23, the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association presented Mrs. Roseann Kello Barnes, formerly of Susquehanna, with the 2004 Citation of Excellence in Teaching. This distinguished honor comes as no surprise to those who know Mrs. Barnes, her teaching style, and her commitment to mentoring student teachers. Although Mrs. Barnes has taught in three elementary schools, when given a choice of schools, she opted to remain at Mary D. Lang, the school which most strongly reflects cultural diversity. Sister Kathleen C. Doutt of Immaculata University works with Mrs. Barnes to introduce music education majors to the classroom. Sister Kathleen stated in her nomination letter that, "when my music education majors return from observing at Mary D. Lang, they are always energized and excited about the prospect of a career in music education. Mrs. Barnes energy and musicality motivate children, many of whom learn English as a second language and most of whom would never otherwise have the advantage of learning music." Mr. Michael Solon, Curriculum supervisor said it best "Your music program could serve as a model for all music teachers!" Roseann is the daughter of Lenny and Mary Rose Kello, Susquehanna.
