Elk Lake Elementary Students of the Month

Mr. Charles Pirone, Elementary Principal at Elk Lake School, is pleased to announce the December, 2003 Student of the Month Award winners.

Blue Ridge 4th Graders Exhibit Art At B U

Binghamton University Art Museum, in partnership with area schools, will present a students’ exhibition in the Fine Arts building on March 11 - 27. The exhibition is a presentation of art that students created in their art classes after having experienced a workshop by Education Curator, Ms. Sylvia Ivanova, from the University Art Museum. The museum program, Art in A Suitcase, allows for the museum collection to visit schools. Ms. Ivonova’s presentation on Japanese prints, made to all Blue Ridge fourth graders, was scheduled in conjunction with the student unit on printmaking.

The School Exhibition 2004 will open with a reception for students and parents in the BU Fine Arts Building on March 11, from 5-7 p.m., and the school is honored that it will include works by a number of Blue Ridge Elementary students. The public is invited and admission is free.

SCCTC Conducting Student Registration

Dimock – The Susquehanna County Career & Technology Center (SCCTC) is currently accepting applications for the 2004 – 2005 academic year. Current freshmen and sophomores from Blue Ridge, Elk Lake, Lackawanna Trail, Montrose Area, Susquehanna Community, and Tunkhannock Area School Districts are eligible to apply. Adult students are also welcome.

Programs at the SCCTC are nationally accredited by the Council on Occupational Education. Financial aid to include Pell and PHEAA is available for adult students.

Applications are due by April 15. Students should see their school guidance counselor for an application. For more information, a schedule of available programs, or to arrange for a tour of the facility, call Marty Kane at 278-9229 extension 782.

Local Students Make National Dean's List

A number of students from our area are among the approximately 170,000 students included in the 26th annual edition of the National Dean’s List, 2002-2003.

The National Dean’s List, published by Educational Communications, Inc., Austin, Texas, is the largest recognition program and publication in the nation honoring high achieving college students.

Students are selected for this honor by their college deans, registrars or honor society advisors and must be in the upper 10% of their class, on their school’s Dean’s List, or have earned a comparable honor. Listed students are eligible to compete for $50,000 in scholarship awards funded by the publisher, and may also use a referral service for future employment opportunities. More than 2,500 colleges and universities nationwide use the publication to recognize their academically qualified students.

Joanna Wallace Makes D. C. Dean's List

Joanna H. Wallace, a sophomore at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA, has been named to the Dean’s List for the 2003 fall semester. A graduate of Blue Ridge High School, she is the daughter of Gerard Wallace, Pacifica, CA and Lorraine Wallace, New Milford, PA.

All students earning a position on the Dean’s List, a recognition of academic excellence, must have a grade point average of 3.7 or above on a 4.0 GPA scale for the semester.

Jessica Griffith Is Studying Abroad

Jessica Griffith, Hallstead, a junior majoring in music at Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts, is spending the Spring, 2004 semester studying in London, England, through Syracuse University's Division of International Programs Abroad.

For more than 40 years, Syracuse's Division of International Programs Abroad has offered credit-bearing study opportunities for SU students as well as those enrolled at other colleges and universities across the United States and Canada. The London program, established in 1970, enrolls more than 600 students each academic year. Students may study fine arts, international business, drama and public communications, or take a wide range of courses in the liberal arts. Students also may complete internships with British firms and agencies and conduct research and studies at historic sites throughout England.

Erica Riecke Makes N U Dean's List

Boston, MA - Great Bend resident Erica Riecke, a Northeastern University student majoring in Physical Therapy was recently named to the University's Dean's List for the fall semester, 2003.

To achieve the dean's list distinction, students must carry a full program of at least four courses, have a quality point average of 3.25 or greater out of a possible 4.0 and carry no single grade lower than a C during the course of their college career. Each student receives a letter of commendation and congratulation from their college dean.
