Library To Host Annual Meeting

The Susquehanna County Historical Society and Free Library Association's annual meeting will be held this Saturday, January 24, at 2 p.m. The meeting will be held this year in the St. Paul's Episcopal Church Hall, Church St., Montrose, PA. The President of the Board of Directors, the Administrator/Librarian, and committee representatives will report on the Association's progress and activities during 2003, including a report on the state funding crisis.

The annual meeting marks the end of the membership drive for 2004 - new members are still needed to reach the goal of 1000. If you would like to join the Association, forms are available at the libraries. Members receive a 4-page quarterly newsletter about events at the Library and Historical Society (not to be confused with the semi-annual Historical Society Journal devoted to genealogy and local history).

One of the topics at the meeting will be the 36.5% cut in state aid to public libraries and the Association's plans to deal with the $100,000 budget shortfall.

After the business portion of the meeting, there will be refreshments. The entertainment portion of the annual meeting will feature Mike Stevens, whose presentation several years ago delighted the audience.

Mike Stevens will be the featured speaker at the Library and Historical Society’s annual meeting.

Mr. Stevens has been traveling the Pennsylvania Road for twenty-one years. His career began in radio, then moved to television. He started at Channel 16 in 1975, then left in 1979 and worked at other stations across the country. Mike returned to WNEP in 1982 to travel the back roads and country lanes in search of interesting people doing interesting things. "On the Pennsylvania Road" has taken viewers to meet folks who whittle, carve, saw, fiddle, play, build, and more.

In addition to his travels, Mike is also host of the Home and Backyard Show, and he contributes to the Pennsylvania Outdoor Life program. His weekly column appears in several newspapers. Mike enjoys writing enough to have published several books, and he also takes the photographs of outdoor scenes that have accompanied some of his print articles. Some of Mike's "Life in the Slow Lane" books are available at the library for your reading enjoyment.

This entertaining talk should be of interest to all ages. Everyone is invited to come, enjoy the free program and learn more about the Association.

Library To Hold Annual Meeting

The Susquehanna County Historical Society & Free Library Association's annual meeting will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2 p.m., in St. Paul's Episcopal Church Hall (Church St., Montrose). Reports on the Association's activities during 2003 will be presented. After the business portion of the meeting, refreshments will be served, and then the entertainment portion will begin, featuring Mike Stevens of WNEP TV's "On the Pennsylvania Road." Mr. Stevens was a huge hit at his last appearance, so this should be a very enjoyable presentation.

Everyone is invited to the annual meeting--there is no charge. Members of the Association are entitled to vote at the meeting and help support library and historical society services across the county. For more information about membership, visit your local library or www.susqcolibrary.org, or call 278-1881.
