Blue Ridge Students Appreciate Veterans

On Tuesday, the eleventh day of the eleventh month at the eleventh hour Blue Ridge Elementary students gathered together with veteran visitors from the area to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Veterans Day. The program included a message from the Commander of the VFW, Eddy Arnold and introductions of all our area veterans that were represented by Richard Rood, Commander of the American Legion Post 357.

The fifth grade select choir, directed by Mrs. Snitzer honored the veterans in attendance and all our service people with song. The Veterans Day tribute is an annual event at Blue Ridge Elementary to extend a heartfelt thank you to our men and women for their service to our country.

Elk Lake Elementary Students of the Month

Mr. Charles Pirone, Elementary Principal at Elk Lake School, is pleased to announce the September, 2003 Student of the Month Award winners.

Pictured (l-r) are: first row – John Hager, Briana Deacon, Olivia Vosburg, Travis Birchard, Bryne DeLong, Julie Klein; second row – Ashley Steele, Tanner Reyan, Jordan Clark, Randi Teed, Rachel Sprout, Zachary Shafer, Paige Parkhurst, Kayla Mosier; third row – Drew Smith, Adam Curry, Rebecca Conklin, Tristen Vaow, Dakota Shafer, Margaret Barlow.

Students in fourth, fifth and sixth grades were selected by their homeroom teachers. Students may be selected as student of the month from four different areas. Those four areas are academic achievement, attendance, citizenship and most improved.

Elk Lake is proud of their students and congratulates them for their accomplishments.

Elk Lake Hosts County Chorus

Elk Lake School was host to about 200 students on Friday, November 7 for the Susquehanna County Chorus Festival. Students prepared for the day with their own directors beforehand. In a one-day event, the chorus members rehearsed under a guest conductor all day. Mrs. Mary Ferraro from Forest City Regional School District conducted the Junior High Chorus of about 100 voices. Dr. Bruce Borton, Director of Choral Activities at Binghamton University conducted the Senior County Chorus. An evening concert was performed.
