WENDELL M. SWARTZ

Wendell M. Swartz, 80, Starrucca, PA, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2003 at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City, NY.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marguerieta (Tarbox) Swartz, in 2001; a brother, Francis Swartz, in 2002; a grandson, Allan Swartz, in 1997.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Kent and Joanne Swartz, Waymart, PA, Mark and Joan Swartz, Starrucca; five daughters and sons-in-law, Sharel and Fred Rhone, Starrucca, Sheila and Jim Sullivan, Hilton, NY, Sharon and Keith Terwilliger, Liverpool, NY, Shelly and Sam Allegrino, Endwell, NY, Sherri and Mark Glover, Starrucca; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Peg Swartz, Poyntelle, PA, Ronald and Shirley Swartz, Jermyn, PA; one sister-in-law, Marie Swartz, Starrucca; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, plus another one expected soon; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Wendell was a member of the Starrucca United Methodist Church, Starrucca. He owned and operated the Rocky Notch Dairy Farm in Starrucca and a school bus for 38 years for the Susquehanna School District. He has been the Mayor of Starrucca for 12 years, was inducted in the Wayne County Sports Hall of Fame in 1994, a Republican Committeeman for Wayne County, former Director of Eastern Milk Producers-Holstein Friesian Association, Past President and Director of O & W Snow Trails Inc. Wendell was a liver transplant recipient in 1992.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 11:00 a.m. at the Starrucca United Methodist Church, with Pastor Brian Lucas officiating. Burial will be in the Starrucca Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Starrucca United Methodist Church or the Starrucca Baptist Church, both of Starrucca, PA 18462, or Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute, UPMC Montofoite, 3459 5th Ave., South Pittsburgh, PA 15212–2580.

JOSEPH M. TOWNER

Joseph M. Towner, 41, Oakland, PA passed away at his home on Friday, November 14, 2003, after an illness.

He was predeceased by his mother, Bertha L. Towner, in 1985; and a brother, Robert J. Towner, in 2002.

He is survived by his father, Arthur Towner, Oakland; two children, Danielle and Andrew.

He was a member of the Susquehanna United Methodist Church, Susquehanna, PA.

Joseph was employed at Midway Lanes, Vestal, NY and Riverside Lanes, Oakland, and drove a tractor trailer for Corse’s Oil Company before retiring due to health reasons.

Funeral services were held from Hennessey’s Funeral Home, Susquehanna, with the Rev. Kenneth Bitler officiating. Burial, McKune Cemetery, Oakland.
