Jason Aileo Deploys To Iraq

Captain Jason Aileo, Dimock is assigned to the Stryker Brigade, the 3rd Brigade of the 2nd Infantry Division which is now deploying to Iraq. The duty in Iraq will be the first ever deployment of a Stryker Brigade. The Brigade is the result of the Army’s effort to create a lighter but effective force that can be more quickly deployed. Its name is derived from the name of its 19-ton eight wheeled armored vehicle, equipped with high tech communications and vision enhancing equipment that can move at speeds of up to 60 MPH, "The Stryker." Soldiers in the Brigade are departing in groups of 300 to 400 from Fort Lewis, Washington. In short order, the entire 5,000 soldiers of the brigade will be in Iraq.

Jason graduated from Elk Lake High School in 1995. He is the son of Bill and Brenna Aileo, grandson of Ruth Johnson, and nephew of Candace McCay, all of Dimock. Jason is a Field Artillery officer serving on the operations staff of the brigade’s artillery battalion. He anticipates the tour which will be a year in length which will mean that Jason will miss the arrival of his first child when his wife, Melinda (Mindy) delivers in April. Mindy is the daughter of Ronald and Elaine Jackson of Falls. In the first year and a half of their marriage Mindy has spent time in Bamberg, Germany; Fort Sill, OK; Fort Leavenworth, KS; and Fort Lewis, WA supporting Jason in his military career. She is now teaching third grade in the post elementary school at Fort Lewis, Washington.

It will be a long year for Jason. If you would like to drop him a line, his address is: CPT Jason Aileo, HSB 1-37th FA, 3-2 SBCT, APO AE 09385.
