MASD Plans Memorial At Choconut School

The Montrose Area School District has appointed an ad hoc committee to plan a memorial to Stephen J. Placko, the late Principal of the Choconut Valley Elementary School who died unexpectedly in January. The committee is made up of teachers, support staff, board members and community members.

A memorial garden with a gazebo will be constructed on the grounds of the school. The gazebo will be large enough for teachers to take their students there for instruction. The Choconut Valley Garden Club will provide shrubbery and flowers for the garden itself, which will include a butterfly garden.

The board of directors also approved a request by the Choconut Valley Youth Athletic Association to name one of the baseball fields on the school grounds after Mr. Placko. CVYAA will place a sign at the field that says: Welcome to the Stephen J. Placko Memorial Field.

Anyone interested in making a donation to help with the expense of the memorial garden and gazebo may send their donation to: Pennstar Bank, RR 1 Friendsville, PA 18818. Checks should be made out to "Placko Memorial Garden."
