EVENTS, PROGRAMS, HAPPENINGS, SEMINARS: Weight Loss Surgery Seminar Scheduled Dr. William S. Peters, D.O., FACS will be giving a free seminar entitled, "Effective Control of Weight Loss" on Wednesday, January 22, 7:00 p.m. at the Montrose Theatre, Montrose. The seminar will include a slide show explaining the different types of surgical options available for obese persons of all ages. Dr. Peters, of Peckville, PA, has been a surgeon for over twenty years and performs most current types of weight loss surgery. Following the slide show, there will be time for questions and answers as well as the opportunity to meet some of Dr. Peters patients. Any person considering weight loss surgery is encouraged to attend this event to experience firsthand how dramatically the quality of life can be changed for the better. Friday, January 31: baked white fish, rice pilaf, tomato and zucchini, orange cranberry muffin, apricots. Sen. Madigan Sets Local Meet Hours Harrisburg State Sen. Roger A. Madigan (R-23) has scheduled four outreach events, in January to give Susquehanna County residents a chance to ask questions or discuss issues concerning state government. "Whether its a problem with PENNDOT or a question about state programs or regulations, this is a chance to sit down and talk with a member of my staff," Madigan said. "Essentially, were taking my district office on the road, to make it more convenient to Susquehanna County residents." Madigan said the events will be held each Tuesday in January. On the first and third Tuesdays January 7 and 21 staff member Chris McLaud will be available to speak with constituents, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Susquehanna County Offices Annex, 31 Public Avenue, Montrose. On the second and fourth Tuesdays January 14 and 28 McLaud will meet with constituents, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the HallsteadGreat Bend Library, 201 Franklin Street, Hallstead. No appointment is necessary. The Sensational Skiers Club have started skiing on Wednesdays, at Elk Mountain. They are formerly the 4H Club now being organized by Nancy and Susan Harvatine. Everyone is welcome to join skiing on Wednesday evenings at Elk Mountain. They meet at a table in the main lodge between 4:30 and 5 p.m. Please come and join for skiing at group rates. Library To Hold Annual Meeting The Susquehanna County Historical Society & Free Library Association's annual meeting will be held on Saturday, January 25, at 2 p.m., in St. Paul's Episcopal Church Hall (Church St., Montrose). Reports on the Association's activities during 2002 will be presented, including a discussion of plans for a new library building for Montrose. After the business portion of the meeting, refreshments will be served, and then the entertainment portion will begin, featuring local writer Lucy Wilson Sherman, author of Laying Foundations: A Year Building a Life While Rebuilding a Farmhouse. Everyone is invited to the annual meeting there is no charge.
