Christ Episcopal Church, Susquehanna and St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, New Milford have welcomed the Reverend Randy Webster to lead worship services and assist local church leaders in revitalizing their missions and presence in the greater community. Webster, who was ordained in 2006, and served previously as assistant rector of an Episcopal Church in Belleville, New Jersey, celebrated his first Sunday on January 24 at 9 a.m. (Susquehanna) and 11:00 a.m. (New Milford).
Fr. Randy Webster begins new ministry at Christ Church, Susquehanna, and St. Mark's, New Milford.
In his initial meeting with the two congregations, Webster said, “Christ Church and St. Mark’s are phenomenal places! There is so much love here, so much faith in God, so much dedication to His word, so many gifts present and active. We have great possibilities to spread God’s love right here; what people living elsewhere might view as limitations, we should view as opportunities. We are called to show our love just as Jesus told Peter to ‘feed my sheep.’” The Senior Wardens of the two parishes, Jim Yeich at St. Mark’s and Todd Moffett at Christ Church, said that the churches look forward to Webster’s enthusiastic leadership, talents and experience. Webster’s work in community outreach, Yeich said, is a “natural fit” with New Milford’s monthly “Good News Lunch” and the support both churches give to the Oakland food bank, as well as their hosting of the American Legion’s “Coats for the Community” distribution of free winter coats. Yeich and Moffett said that local Episcopalians are particularly pleased with Fr. Webster’s interest and life experience in small town and rural churches, as shown by his roots in rural Iowa and prior familiarity with northeastern Pennsylvania.
Originally from Burlington, Iowa, Webster’s first love was music. He earned a degree in organ performance and choral conducting from Coe College, Cedar Raids. Webster later found a calling to ministry and earned his Master of Divinity degree in Pastoral Music from Bexley Hall, formerly an Episcopal seminary located in Rochester, New York, through a program that combined a basic theological education with a musical one centered at The Eastman Conservatory.
Father Webster brings a number of varied life experiences with him in addition to his academic training. He has served as organist and choir director for a number of churches in various mainline denominations for almost forty years. While still living in Iowa he owned a very successful restaurant. During his eleven year service at Christ Church in Belleville, New Jersey, he helped to oversee all of the various outreach projects there which included serving as the Executive Director of The Care Closet, a program which distributed bags of paper and personal care products to individuals and families on public assistance, and the Mary and Martha Soup Kitchen, which served meals three times each week to the community.
Webster, along with the congregations in Susquehanna and New Milford invite everyone to visit the churches any Sunday for a closer look at their worship and music, ministry and community outreach programs. Christ Church is located on West Main Street in Susquehanna near the bridge. St. Mark’s is located in New Milford at 115 Main Street (Route 11).
