ALVIN J. VanGORDEN

Alvin J. VanGorden, 76, of Great Bend, PA, passed away April 16, 2009 in Wilson Medical Center, Johnson City, NY. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Janet.

Also surviving are two sons, Michael J. and Cindy VanGorden and David and Tina VanGorden; four grandchildren, Kristen VanGorden and fiancé, Mike, Nicole, Malinda and Megan VanGorden; two great-grandchildren, Jade and Bonham; eight siblings, Charles and Kathy VanGorden, Nancy Philips, Betty Neal and Ike, Walter and Jeanette VanGorden, Peggy and Ralph Chidester, Diane and Stanley Darrow, Terry and Linda VanGorden, and Jerry VanGorden and his friend, Barb; special nieces, Barbara Waterman and Cathy Stroller; special friend, Clyde Yeomans; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Shirley Derrick, Judy Dailey and her friend, Philip, and James E. and Willie Galloway Jr.; and many other nieces and nephews.

Alvin was employed with the Hallstead Iron Foundry until its closing and then worked for Philips Foundry until his retirement at the age of 62. He served with the United States Army as a corporal during the Korean Conflict. He is a life member of the American Legion Post #357 and the V.F.W. Post #6223.

At Alvin's request there will be no services. Should friends so desire, expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation to the Great Bend/Hallstead Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 747, Great Bend, PA 18821.
