Johnny Edwards Music Scholarship Established

Family and friends of the late Johnny Edwards have established a scholarship in his memory to benefit graduates of Susquehanna Community High School.

The scholarship fund is a component of the Susquehanna Community School District Foundation, which is an affiliate of The Community Foundation of Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties, and will provide assistance with college tuition for future generations of students who exhibit exceptional talent in vocal or instrumental performance. Mr. Edwards was a talented local musician and it is hoped this scholarship will help students with a similar passion for music.

Like all Community Foundation funds, this is intended to be a permanent, annual scholarship that will increase in value over time and continue to support Susquehanna graduates for many years to come. Resources to establish this scholarship were raised from a well-attended fund raising concert in late January, as well as from tax-deductible donations. Those wishing to honor the memory of Johnny, and to provide greater assistance to future scholarship winners, may send donations to The Community Foundation, 36 Lake Avenue, Montrose, PA 18801.

Conservation District Announces Scholarship

The Susquehanna County Conservation District is accepting applications for the District’s annual scholarship award. A $500.00 scholarship is available to a 2007 Susquehanna County high school graduate. The student must be enrolled as a full time student in an environmental or agricultural field for the 2007 fall semester. Applications are due Tuesday, May 1. Students who wish to apply may contact their school’s guidance office or the Susquehanna County Conservation District at 278-4600 ext. 285. Proceeds from the Conservation District’s annual seedling sale provide the funding needed for this award. The Susquehanna County Conservation District seeks to foster the growing need for environmental and agricultural education for our youth.
