New Milford Man Fined & Jailed

A 22-year-old New Milford man was sentenced to serve seven months to 23 1/2 months in the Susquehanna County Jail and ordered to pay $1,300 in fines and costs on an assortment of charges last week before Susquehanna County President Judge Kenneth Seamans, and pleaded guilty to an assortment of charges.

Joshua Ryan Casey will also be on probation for three years following his release from jail, must pay restitution to his victims, the cost of prosecution, continue with drug and alcohol counseling, and perform 50 hours of community service.

Forest City School Board Pushes Taxes Higher

After tacking on some extra bucks that pushed the real estate tax even higher than had been proposed, the Forest City Regional Board of Education voted 5-3 in favor of the school district’s $10.5 million 2006-2007 budget.

On May 22, the board approved a tentative budget that would have set the 2006-2007 school tax rate at 31 mills in Forest City, Union Dale and Herrick Township; 11.5 mills in Pleasant Mount and Clinton Township II; and 77.3 mills in Vandling.
