Blue Ridge Elementary Recognizes Volunteers

On a recent afternoon at Blue Ridge Elementary, many parents and community volunteers (pictured above) were honored. Teachers and staff hosted a social of food and festivity to say thank you for their commitment to help in the children’s classrooms and with school related activities. Blue Ridge Elementary is always looking for volunteers; if interested, call the office and inquire as to how you can become a volunteer.

Area Students Graduate College Misericordia

The following county residents received diplomas during the 80th annual Commencement exercises at College Misericordia, Dallas, PA on May 20.

Kristen Yakamavich Lawrence, Susquehanna, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Amanda Gaffey, Thompson, with a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy.

Megan Clough On Penn Dean’s List

Megan Fae Clough finished her sophomore year at the Worthington Scranton Campus of Penn State in May, 2006 with a cumulative GPA of 3.81. She has been on the Dean’s List her first four semesters and gained her Varsity Letter in Cheerleading. Megan will be attending Penn State Main Campus at University Park, State College, PA in the fall, continuing her endeavor to become a Special Education teacher.

Shannon Cullen On LCCC Honors List

Shannon Y. Cullen, daughter of George and Colleen Wilkes, Lanesboro, made honors list at Luzerne County Community College for the Spring, 2006 semester. The 22-year old student is currently pursuing a career in law enforcement. She plans to attend Luzerne for two more years to earn an Associates Degree in Human Service as well as Social Science. Ms. Cullen also starts Florida Metropolitan University on-line for a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Investigation in the Fall of 2006.

Justin W. Tennant Receives Degree

Wilkes-Barre, PA – Recently 428 King’s College students received their diplomas at commencement ceremonies held on Sunday, May 21.

Receiving a degree from our area was Justin W. Tennant, New Milford, who earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice.

Katherine McHale Interns At B-K

Selinsgrove, PA – Katherine McHale of Starrucca, PA, is interning at Barnes-Kasson Health Center Inc. this summer. She is a rising junior, studying public relations at Susquehanna University.

Katherine’s responsibilities include assisting with marketing and promotion of the federally qualified health center with multiple sites; coordination of an annual corporate fund-raiser; and providing clerical support to administration. Through the course of the internship, she hopes to apply the knowledge she gained in the classroom.

Katherine, a graduate of Susquehanna Community High School, is the daughter of Mark and Karen McHale.
