TREHAB Announces Contest Winners Students in all seven Susquehanna County elementary schools recently submitted entries for TREHAB’s Anti-Tobacco Bumper Sticker Contest. The contest encourages students to express themselves creatively by creating a bumper sticker that will help people realize the dangers or harmful effects of tobacco use. One student from every participating grade level in each school was awarded a certificate imprinted with his/her entry and a small prize from the TREHAB Prevention Program. One Grand Prize winner from all entries in the Kindergarten through Third Grade category and another from the Fourth through Sixth Grade category was each awarded a $50 savings bond. Winners of the two Grand Prizes were Steven Nagy from Choconut Valley Elementary and Sharon Carmona from Mountain View Elementary. EL Debater Places In Pittsburgh EL junior Molly Copeland put in a successful performance in Lincoln-Douglas Debate at the 32nd Annual North Hills Invitational Tournament, the largest invitational forensics tournament in PA, on February 10-11. EL Forensics Team Member Molly Copeland – 11th Place at 32nd Annual North Hills Invitational Tournament. In the preliminary rounds, Copeland defeated debaters from Erie McDowell HS, North Allegheny HS, and Shadyside Academy en route to a 3 win and 2 loss record and a 9th place seeding in the Octa-Final round. In Octa-Finals, she lost a close debate to North Canton Glenoak High School’s Nate Kratzer and finished 11th overall in the tournament. “This was a great end to a very successful regular season. Hopefully, Molly’s success will continue as we enter the qualifying season,” commented EL Forensics Director Keith Brosious. The EL Forensics Team will compete at the PA High School Speech League’s District 8 Championship at Scranton HS on February 25. The top two place-winners in each event will compete at the PHSSL State Championship at Susquehanna University on March 24-25. On March 4, the team will travel to Wallenpaupack HS to compete at the Scranton Catholic Forensics League’s National Qualifying Tournament. The top 5 place-winners at this tournament will compete at the NCFL Grand National Tournament in Chicago on Memorial Day Weekend.

Veterans In 2006 Mt. View Commencement The Mountain View School District Alumni Association along with the Mountain View School District will honor Veterans at the 2006 Commencement. Veterans in the school district who were unable to graduate and receive diplomas due to deployment in the armed forces will have the opportunity to receive their diplomas. The ceremony to honor Veterans will be incorporated into the 2006 Commencement.
