Selinsgrove, PA – More than 600 students have been named to the Dean's List for the fall semester at Susquehanna University. The Dean’s List recognizes students who earn a grade point average of 3.4 or better out of a possible 4.0 for the semester. To be eligible, a student must complete at least 12 semester hours.

Melanie Loomis Makes P S Dean’s List

Melanie Loomis, who attends Penn State University in State College, PA as a freshman, has achieved the Dean's List with a 3.51 GPA for the fall term at main campus. Melanie is enrolled in the College of Communications and intends to pursue a career in Television Broadcasting or Journalism. She has made the final cut with the Penn State TV and News station after competing with over 200 students and has been hired by the newspaper division for the spring term of 2006. Melanie is the daughter of Jeff and Jan Loomis, Montrose, PA. She is the granddaughter of Irving and Jean Loomis, Montrose, PA and of the late Alex and Marjorie Gawron, Susquehanna, PA.

Mt. View School Sets Kindergarten Registration

If your child will be five before September 1, 2006, he/she may register for kindergarten at the Mountain View Elementary School on March 7, 8, and 9.

A set of registration papers will be sent to everyone on the pre-school list in order to make registration go faster. If you did not receive a packet by February 14, please call the Mountain View Elementary School (434-2181, Ext. 439) for an appointment.

An evening meeting for parents prior to registration is planned for Wednesday, March 1, at 7:00 P.M.

If you believe that your school-age or pre-school aged child may be in need of special education services and related services, please arrange for a screening or evaluation. The programs and evaluations are at no cost to the parents. For parents of Pre-school aged children, call Katheryn Bonomo at 1-800-228-1750, for parents of school-aged children, please call Mary Hvezda at 434-2181.

It’s About Giving!

Blue Ridge Student Council has fundraised and collected donations for the the yearly Adopt A Family program topping $1,000.00. Every year the student council picks a family to give a wonderful holiday to. They also have purchased more than 8 coats and jackets to give students in the district that did not have one.

Mrs. Gilboy the advisor of Student Council stated, “This year the students have really outdone themselves, along with the generosity of our faculty and staff. I am so proud of them; they are just a wonderful group of students.”

The student council held a dance at Thanksgiving with the food donations and monetary donations going to families in our district. The students wanted this year to be all about giving back to the community and school district. Most of the student council this year is comprised of students who are involved in at least one of the following activities; a varsity sport, band, chorus, drama dept., one or more other clubs and also are on the honor roll. A total of 1,150 students have been named to the Dean’s List at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania for the Fall, 2005 semester of the 2005-06 academic year according to Dr. Kenneth W. Borland, Jr., provost and vice president for academic affairs.

Students eligible for the Dean’s List are those who have attained a 3.50 quality point average or better. The letter grade “B” earns three quality points per credit, and the grade “A” earns four quality points per credit.
