HOWARD HELLER Howard Heller, Lanesboro, PA passed away January 20, 2006 at Barnes-Kasson Hospital after an illness. Born August 21, 1931 in Herrick Center, PA, he was the son of John Heller and Ina Purdy Heller. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Heller, February 24, 1997. He is survived by two sons, Jeff, at home, and Mark; a stepdaughter, Barbara Gilbert. Also surviving are a brother, Leslie and sister-in-law, Dorothy, Hawaii. He was predeceased by seven brothers, Mervington, Cecil, Robert, Arnold, Jack, Kenneth, and Claude; a sister, Marcia. Arrangements were made by Chase Funeral Home, Binghamton, NY. Services and burial at Port Crane Cemetery at the convenience of the family. EDWARD T. SLATER Edward T. Slater, 92, Susquehanna, PA, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2006, at the Barnes-Kasson Hospital SNF, Susquehanna. He was predeceased by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Helen Ahearn Slater; his parents, Peter P. and Ann Hynes Slater; his brother, Fred; and sister, Mary Slater Reddon. Edward is survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Edmond and Mary Ahearn; nieces and nephew, Anne and Thomas Dooley, Patrick and Mary Beth Ahearn, Mary Ellen and Michael Wayne, and Dorothy Schrader; many great-nieces and nephews; one great-great-niece; several cousins, including Thomas and Eileen Ivey and Mary Pat and William Palmer. Born in Susquehanna, he was a lifelong member of St. John’s Parish, graduate of Laurel Hill Academy, World War II veteran, retired Conrail conductor, past president of the Board of Directors for Susquehanna Community School District and former Mayor of Susquehanna. Ed was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Erie Hose Fireman, American Legion, VFW and Moose Lodge. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, February 7 at Hennessey’s Funeral Home, Susquehanna and at St. John’s Church, were a Mass of Christian Burial was offered by the Rev. Robert Simon. Burial, St. John’s Cemetery, Susquehanna. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Church, Susquehanna, PA 18847.
