Junior Driver License Testing

The Elk Lake School District is pleased to announce that Mr. Paul Grosvenor, the driver training instructor, is now certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to test students who have passed the classroom course and completed the 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction for their junior drivers’ license exam. Mr. Grosvenor was required to submit a road course to the Department of Transportation. The course, which was approved for the test by PENDOT, gives students approximately 22 minutes of driving time in and around Montrose. Upon passing the test, students have their permits stamped which allows them to drive on their own between 5:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. Paperwork is sent to Harrisburg and the process is completed within two to three weeks when students receive their camera cards.

Driver Training Instructor Paul Grosvenor has already administered driver’s license tests to several Elk Lake students. Pictured (l-r) are: Jessica Wells, Jamie Hunsinger, Bradley Smith and Mr. Paul Grosvenor.

Several students who have taken their tests with Mr. Grosvenor said they were not as nervous as they would have been with the testers in Montrose. Another important facet of this program is Mr. Grosvenor’s knowledge of the students’ skills. “Each student spends a minimum of six hours driving in the car with me,” Mr. Grosvenor notes. “They experience many different driving conditions from dirt roads to driving on Interstate 81.”

Recycling Is Fun!

Elk Lake Second Grade students (pictured) visited the Susquehanna County Recycling Center October 3. They learned about the environmental benefits of recycling and how plastic, glass, steel, and paper recyclables are prepared for marketing so that it can be made into new products.
