Deirdre Philpott Gets Kutztown Awards


Local Students In Summer Institute

The Mid-Atlantic Alliance of Cooperatives (MAAC) has announced the names of 53 students who have been selected to participate in the 2005 Summer Institute for Youth Cooperative Leadership to be held June 26-29 on the campus of Shippensburg University, Shippensburg, PA. The three-day institute is sponsored and funded by MAAC and its members.

The outstanding young people were chosen through participation in a series of one-day business and leadership training programs. The programs are designed to help older teens understand more about business structures, with an emphasis on the principles of the cooperative form of business. The programs also establish an environment that facilitates team building and leadership training.

First year students from our locale are Randi-Jo Brown, Meshoppen; Ross Cameron, Tunkhannock; Julie Novak, Forest City; Lucas Taylor, Hop Bottom; Brandon Wilson, Meshoppen.

Second year students from our locale are Luke Kavka, Kingsley; Beatty Price, Union Dale.

Deirdre Philpott Gets Kutztown Awards

Deirdre Philpott, a graduate of Susquehanna Community High School, recently received the Leadership Award and Academic Excellence Award in Psychology at Kutztown University. Deirdre is a Susquehanna native.

Deirdre graduated from KU in May with a Bachelor of Science Degree  in Psychology/Clinical Counseling.

The Leadership Award in Psychology is awarded to students demonstrating leadership through service in university or off-campus organizations.

The Academic Excellence Award in Psychology is awarded to students with the highest grade point average.
