E L Students To Attend District Band Festival

Elk Lake is proud of the students that will be representing their school at the PMEA District 9 Band Festival. The Band Festival will be hosted Friday, April 29, at the Wayne Highlands Middle School, Honesdale, PA. There will be two concert bands; one for the fifth and sixth grades and one for grades seven and eight. The concert begins at 6:45 p.m. in the Honesdale High School. The conductor for the fifth and sixth band is Betty Ann Robson of the Elmira School District and Mr. Michael Kivas of Philadelphia. Mr. Jim Willow is the host conductor.

Elk Lake Attends PMEA Song-Fest

Thirteen students from Elk Lake Elementary and Middle School choruses were selected to attend the District 9, PMEA Song-Fest held at Lackawanna Trail High School on Friday, April 1. Singers from about fifty schools in the District participated in an all-day festival.

Representing the Elk Lake Elementary Chorus (l-r) were: back row – Tabitha Kittle, Kelsey Mills, Miranda Larnerd; front row – Katie Mitchell, Allison Fisher.

Students prepared the music at their home schools with their own directors. Then they came together under a guest conductor for a day of rehearsal and performance.

Representing the Elk Lake Middle School Chorus (l-r) were: back row – Mackenzie Franssen, Randy Alden, Brandi Smith, Cody Anderson Ashley Hoffman; front row – Ariel Shiffer, Alan Gage, Aaron Boner.

Elementary Chorus was directed by Ms. Susan Kelly, Choral Director at Mid Valley School District. The Middle School Chorus sang under Mrs. Eileen Hower. The evening concert concluded with a combined number of about 330 voices singing “I Dream a World,” by Andre Thomas. Elk Lake choruses are under the direction of Mrs. Barbara Holbert.

Elk Lake High School is pleased to announce the following students who were selected as March, 2005 “Students of the Month”.

Adam Swindlehurst Makes S. C. Dean's List

Adam Swindlehurst of Thompson was named to the dean's list at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA, for winter quarter 2005. Full-time undergraduate students who earn a grade point average of 3.5 or above for the quarter receive recognition on the dean's list.

Beth Giangrieco Is USN Award Winner

The United States Achievement Academy announced that Beth Giangrieco from New Milford, PA has been named a United States National Award winner in Leadership and Service.

Beth, who attends Blue Ridge High School was nominated for this national award by Christina Whitney, a Career Service Teacher at the school. Beth will appear in the United States Achievement Academy Official Yearbook, which is published nationally.

Beth is the daughter of Jim and Frida Giangrieco, New Milford. The grandparents are John and Jean Giangrieco, Hallstead.

Sarah Button Chosen F.C. Rotary Student

Ms. Eliza Vagni, Assistant Principal of Mountain View High School, announces the selection of Sarah Button, daughter of Thomas and Patricia Button of Kingsley, as the Forest City Rotary Student Of The Month for March. Sarah merited this recognition because of high academic achievement, participation in a variety of extracurricular and community activities, and great potential for future service to society.

An honor student in the Class of 2005, Sarah as been a member of the National Honor Society, the Jazz Band, the Wind Ensemble, the Marching Band, and dramatic casts during her high school years. In addition, she has been involved with part-time employment as an SEO assistant and has served as a volunteer for the Harford Historical Society in their popular Halloween Haunted House Project.

This year Sarah's interests have included swing dance lessons, the Juggling Club, the Philosophy Club, and Irish music, specifically with the tin whistle. She also assisted the seventh grade class as a mentor.

Sarah has participated for three years in dog training experiences, e.g. teaching her dog specific tricks, obedience, and agility. In 2003 she was associated with the Susquehanna Watershed and helped in tree planting activities.

After graduation in June, Sarah plans to attend college and will continue training and studies in several music programs.

Sarah and her parents were invited to attend the March 28 dinner meeting as guests of the Rotary Club at Guiseppe's Restaurant in Forest City.

The Elk Lake Music Department will proudly present their spring concert season with the following schedule.

The senior high band and chorus concert will be held Thursday, May 5, 7:30 p.m.

The junior high band and chorus concert will be held Thursday, May 12, 7:30 p.m.

The fifth and sixth grade band and chorus concert will be held Thursday, May 19, 7:00 p.m.
