Blue Ridge Selects Heisman Nominees

Blue Ridge High School is proud to announce the selection of this year’s nominees for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award. This award recognizes one boy and one girl from each school that demonstrates achievement in 3 categories: Academic Excellence, Community Service, and Athletic Achievement.

LCCC Signs Agreement With Bloomsburg Univ.

Luzerne County Community College recently signed a new agreement with Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania (BU).

The agreement allows LCCC graduates to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from BU, at the college’s main campus in Nanticoke.

Youth Exchange Students On The Go

The Montrose Rotary Club has sponsored three local students who departed recently for a year of high school study abroad. The club also sponsors two visiting students annually. Pictured above (l-r) are Irma Lopez, who just returned home to Mexico; Willow Chance who has taken up studies in Germany; Christine Beattie who is here from Australia; Brent Dyson who is spending a year in Mexico; and Monica Turner who is also studying in Germany.

The Montrose Rotary Club is in the process of recruiting students who want to apply to study abroad starting in August, 2005. An assembly is scheduled for early October at both the Elk Lake and Montrose High Schools. Interested students may call Tom Kurosky, 278–3063, or speak to their guidance counselors for more information.

Adult Evening Classes At Mountain View

The Mountain View School District will once again be offering an adult education program during the Fall of 2004. The classes will be offered on different nights throughout each week so that more people can participate in the programs.

Tuition will be charged for each class. To register for one or more classes call Mrs. Joy Marcy at 434–2180 ext. 413 on any school day between the hours of 7:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The following classes will be offered: Adult Recreation Volleyball; Adult Recreation Basketball; Watercolor Painting; Basketry/Chair Caning.

Alyssa Jones Completes C U Program

Alyssa Jones, Friendsville, a freshman enrolled in Syracuse University's L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science, recently completed Syracuse University's six-week SummerStart program held from late June to early August.

SummerStart at Syracuse University is designed to ensure a smooth transition from high school to college.
