HEADLINES: Ensign Colby Wood Receives Promotion On August 2, 2004, at USS Albacore Park, Portsmouth, NH, Colby R. Wood was commissioned an Ensign in the US Navys Limited Duty Program. Ensign Wood was formerly ETC SS Wood, stationed aboard the USS Montpelier SSN 765. In attendance were his wife, Dawn and son, Alex of Virginia Beach, VA, his mother, Mildred Wood of New Orleans, Louisiana and father, James Wood of Susquehanna. Following the official ceremony, a traditional "Wetting Down" party was held for all hands and guests at the Muddy River Smokehouse, Portsmouth, NH. Ensign Wood will attend LDO School in Pensacola, FL, starting August 16 and then report to the aircraft carrier USS George Washington, home-ported in Norfolk, VA. It is ironic that former ETC SS Woods first duty station was part of the initial crew that commissioned the USS Montpelier into active service and some eleven years later, the Commanding Officer of USS Montpelier performed his commissioning ceremony to Ensign.
