G. Sgt. Richard Pelicci Is Awarded Medal

The Secretary of the Navy has awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal to United States Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Richard T. Pelicci, son of Nancy Pelicci, Susquehanna, and Richard (Dick) Pelicci, Montrose, for professional achievement while serving as a Flight Engineer and staff non-commissioned officer in charge, VMGR-452 Detachment Alpha, Marine Aircraft Group 14, Second Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Forces Atlantic from January 30, 2002 to December 1, 2002. During this period, Gunnery Sergeant Pelicci consistently performed his duties in an exemplary and highly professional manner. Gunnery Sergeant Pelicci flew over 160 flight hours in Southwest Asia AOR in support of combat operations during Operation Enduring Freedom. In addition, Gunnery Sergeant Pelicci provided essential data and technical skill for combat mission planning. Because of his diligent efforts and in-depth knowledge, he was respected and admired by all who observed him and contributed to the accomplishment of the detachment’s mission. Gunnery Sergeant Pelicci’s initiative, perseverance and total dedication to duty reflected great credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.

PFC Nathan S. Belcher

Private First Class Nathan S. Belcher has graduated as a Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Specialist from Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, MO. Prior to his schooling he attended Boot Camp at Parris Island, SC and completed his combat training at Camp Lejeune, NC.

He has been assigned to the 3rd Force Service Support Group, Okinawa, Japan.

PFC Belcher is the son of James and Frances Compton, Union Dale. He is the grandson of Franklin and Carole Belcher, Union Dale and Arthur and Geraldine Compton, Nicholson.

He is a 2002 graduate of Mountain View High School.

Corporal Brian J. Kelly

Branch of Service: United States Marines.

Stationed from Camp Lejeune.

Deployed for duty in "Southwest Asia."

Parents: Jim Kelly and Deborah Pirnik, Susquehanna.

Years in service: four and a half years.

Fmn. Joseph Travis

In Arabian Gulf

Navy Fireman Joseph S. Travis, Jr., son of Bonne C. and Joseph S. Travis of New Milford, recently made a port visit to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii while on a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz, home-ported in San Diego.

Joseph is one of more than 6,000 Pacific Fleet Sailors and Marines aboard the ships of the USS Nimitz carrier battle group.

Joseph is a 2001 graduate of Blue Ridge he of New Milford, PA and joined the Navy in July, 2001.
